Photography News: Canon Introduces Its Newest Full-Frame Workhorse, Featuring up to 16 fps Continuous Shooting, DCI 4K Video Recording, and Sensitivity to ISO 409600

NEW YORK CITY, NY--(Marketwired - February 01, 2016) - B&H Photo would like to share the announcement of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II, the company's newest flagship DSLR, featuring a full-frame 20.2MP CMOS sensor and dual DIGIC 6+ image processors, which avail a top expanded sensitivity of ISO 409600, along with versatile stills and video recording modes. Up to 16 fps shooting is possible when working in live view, or 14 fps with the optical viewfinder; 170 raw frames can be captured in a single burst. DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) video recording is supported at up to 60 fps when using CFast 2.0 memory cards, Full HD 1080p movies can be recorded at 120 fps for slow-motion playback, and 8.8MP still frame grabs can be taken from 4K footage in-camera and saved as a single image file.

Complementing the advanced imaging capabilities is an updated 61-point High Density Reticular AF II system, which incorporates 41 cross-type points, along with a center point that is sensitive down to -3 EV and is compatible with apertures down to f/8, to benefit working with teleconverters and telephoto lenses. When working in live view for stills or movie recording, a Dual Pixel CMOS AF system enables quick, responsive focus control, along with a Movie Servo AF mode for smooth continuous focusing. Additionally, accurate subject tracking and exposure metering is afforded by a new EOS Intelligent Tracking and Recognition system that employs a 360k-pixel metering sensor.

Rounding out the feature-set of the Canon 1D X Mark II is a trademark robust physical design characterized by dual CFast and CompactFlash card slots and a rugged magnesium-alloy body that is both dust- and weather-sealed for use in trying conditions. The rear of the body incorporates a large, high-resolution 3.2" 1.62m-dot touchscreen LCD for intuitive control over camera settings, and built-in GPS can be used to geo-tag imagery automatically while shooting. The Canon 1D X Mark II is also compatible with the new optional WFT-E8A Wireless File Transmitter for transferring imagery via 2.4GHz or 5GHz IEEE 802.11ac/n/a/g/b Wi-Fi bands.
