ORLANDO, FL, November 12, 2015 /satPRnews.com/ -- Personal injury law firm Colling Gilbert Wright & Carter Thursday announced that partner attorney Melvin Wright has been appointed to the Committee on Standard Jury Instructions in Civil Cases (SJI) of the Florida Supreme Court. Wright will serve a three-year term on the committee starting Jan. 1, 2016.

"SJI provides civil litigators the opportunity to leverage their years of experience to suggest improvements to the instructions juries trying real-life cases receive, and I believe I have a lot to contribute."
SJI was created in 1967 to advise the state supreme court on amendments to the instructions provided to juries in civil cases. According to the Florida Supreme Court website, applicants are reviewed by members of the committee. The committee's recommendations are forwarded to the court, which then issues the final appointments.
Wright is one of 12 committee members whose term begins in 2016. Members of SJI meet several times each year in cities across Florida to discuss errors, inconsistencies and other issues affecting standard jury instructions.
"Trial by jury is a precious right under American law, and jury instructions must be updated from time to time to ensure that justice is being served," Wright said. "I am proud that the Florida Supreme Court takes a leadership role in this area, and even prouder to be a part of it myself."
