GILI AIR, Indonesia, June 02, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Matthew Wachno, 24, has been nominated as a PADI Open Water SCuba instructor in the 19th of May 2015. Matt passed his Instructor Exams in Gili Trawangan together with the other 14 candidates from Gili Islands, Lombok and Bali.

Matt's diving career begun in 2008 when he, at the age of 17 took his first breath under water. Originally from Alberta, Canada, Matt fell directly in love with Gili Air: "I was very pleased with my Divemaster training which I did in Koh Tao, Thailand , but participating the IDC at Oceans 5 has raised my capabilities as a professional diver to a completely new level. I was really pleased with the way both the course directors Sander and Assar, and Master Instructor Joeri put their hearts and minds into the teaching," says Matt with a huge smile on his face.

Oceans 5 is a Five star PADI CDC Dive resort in Indonesia. Founded in 2010, it has rapidly became one of the most popular dive resorts in Indonesia. Working with all levels of PADI courses, Oceans 5 has developed over 500 dive professionals and more than 2000 Open water divers up to date.

Oceans 5 is organizing an Instructor Development Course every month of the year. The number of participants is kept low to ensure that every new instructor not only passes the IDC but also learns to be an excellent SCuba Instructor. "Teaching the candidates how to pass their IDC exams is not that hard," says Master Instructor Joeri Van Hal, who took his IDC with Oceans 5 in 2011, "but we do not want to go the easy way. We spend a lot of time and effort to teach our candidates skills beyond the IE requirements. We especially focus on control and student management in open water as this is one of the most challenging parts of sCuba diving. We want that every instructor who comes out of Oceans 5 knows how to work in a safe and fun manner respecting the PADI standards and at the same time spreading the joy of diving to a great number of new people," he continues.

IDC course at Oceans five officially takes 12 days of hard work. Unofficially the work starts a few days earlier when the candidates start to arrive to Gili Air, where Oceans 5 PADI Five Star Dive Resort is located. During the prework the candidates confined water skills are assessed, and their knowledge on all subjects of theory is checked. Sander Buis, the owner of Oceans 5 comments: "The candidates usually have a very good level of knowledge and skills when they come for their IDC. PADI has done a remarkable job in creating an educational System that works for people with all kinds of language, cultural and educational backgrounds." During the official 12 day program the candidates go through a relatively large number of theoretical information, learn to use the PADI Standards and procedures, learn how to conduct a classroom presentation, learn how to teach in the confined open water and finally learn how to teach and control students in the open water.

Instructor Exam is a two day happening, during which the candidates are drilled with theory exams, classroom presentations, and confined and open water teaching simulations. The intensity of these two days can be nerve wrecking for the instructors to be, but it's all for the greater course; a SCuba Instructor has to be able to work under pressure in varying conditions and with different kinds of people in a fast pace. "I was positively surprised with both the level of candidates and the surroundings that Oceans 5 can offer for the candidates. Everything from the classroom to the 25 meter long pool to the open water training site with horizontal ropes were in excellent condition and solely reserved for the IDC candidates use," says Assar Manuswin, the visiting course director from IDC- Phuket, Thailand who was conducting the IDC in May 2015.

PADI IDC Center Oceans 5 offers every month a PADI IDC Gili Islands at Gili Air in Indonesia. Oceans 5 is one of the best organized Career Development Centers at the Gili Islands with its world class facilities.
