Apparently, the First Ecclesiastical Society of Westbury was formed sometime during the summer of 1738 by a few hundred local residents. Four decades later, Westbury became independent and finally separated from its long ties with Waterbury. From that point forward, Westbury would be formally known as Watertown.
So the countrified borough of Watertown emerged from its humble beginnings as Westbury in the early 1780's, and has never looked back.
