Not such a spoiler alert but…

Mim’s House is awesome and I love it.

As a Raleigh wedding photographer it’s a dream. I adore it even more as a friend to the fabulous women, Brooke and Priscilla, who turned the place into the dream venue it is today. It was SO great to see it in its glory at its grand opening night event; it’s come such a long way from when I last saw it. And it’s fab-u-lous!

I knew these women wouldn’t miss a beat (especially because Priscilla also owns Orangerie Events and Brooke, Belle’s Catering); everything from the invitation to the first step onto the newly laid brick walkway into the door was beautifully planned and executed. The day of the event, I posted some photos of the invitation…

…and anxiously awaited the hour I would leave my downtown apartment and head to my friend Heather’s studio to help her set up a bit at Mim’s. (Heather is the incredibly talented woman behind Eclectic Sage, floral design.)

The theme of the evening was “Alice in Wonderland” and I must say things from the flowers to the linens to a mushroom seated hookah lounge outside all supported the whimsical evening Priscilla and Brooke aimed to create.

Flowers on Broad Street created the beautiful flowers that decorated the facade of the historical home.

I thought the directional sign with its fun lettering and bright colors was the perfect sign to welcome guests into the space after they drank a “DRINK ME” juice. The posters of Alice in Wonderland scenes went hand in hand with Eclectic Sage’s fun floral designs, like the bunny perched amongst pink flowers and the Mad Hatter scene she placed in a fireplace. Even the tea cups were perfect!

May I add I adored the personal touch of photos of Priscilla and Brooke in frames set up on the bookshelves? So cute and made it feel like such a sweet home.

Heather really ensured the the flowers had the theme tied right in, down to the yellow teacups with floating candles in the fireplace and Mad Hatter topped tulips arrangement. This is the “drink me” vial the friendly waitstaff handed you as you walked in – a citrus palette cleanser to drink.

Donovan’s Dish catered the Mad Hatter room and Rocky Top catered the flamingo room. Belle’s catering passed hors d’oeuvres around the rooms.

How genius are these gold flamingos? The red, white and pink tulips were absolute perfection for Heather’s vision. She said they were for when the playing cards were painting the white roses red to satisfy the Queen of Hearts. If that’s not genius, I don’t know what is. AND the greenery was variegated to mimic the white edges of the roses too! Ahhh!

Randi of Sugar Euphoria designed this beautiful pink and white lace cake, complete with a tea cup topper and illustrations from Alice in Wonderland printed in edible ink and applied onto fondant. She also set up a beautiful (and delicious) dessert table complete with “Eat Me” cookies.

There are so many gorgeous fireplaces at Mim’s House! At another, Eclectic Sage adorned the bottom space with floating candles of various heights, added wooden mushrooms and finished it off with real carrots. I love how the flowers on the mantle picked up on the orange of the carrots and branches complimented the woodland feel of the mushrooms.

Lemonade had signage nearby: Drink this to make you taller, drink that to make you smaller!

Another mantle had beautiful all white horse head vases at the bottom of a moss green checkerboard piece. I love the flow of the floral “manes” whipping back from the vases.  Lastly, she created a clock and rabbit head piece with purple and white flowers and beautiful ferns at a central fireplace. Seriously, she outdid herself. It was all spectacular.

The linens were bright and cheery – I loved the pattern on these, from CE Rental. There was even a little hookah lounge with mushroom stools as part of the outdoor ambience.

I was happy to meet Riley, a photographer doing real tin-types on site. (So cool and vintage!) and of course everyone drank delicious themed cocktails (one was topped off with cotton candy!) and danced the night away to Bunn DJ Company’s tunes under the tent, atop a wonderful black and white checkerboard dance floor.

And yes…we danced. LOTS!

For an extra special treat, here is the video Silver Feather Studios created:

Venue: Mim’s House / Interior florist: Eclectic Sage / Front exterior florist: Flowers on Braod Street / Linens: CE Rental / Dessert: Sugar Euphoria / Invitation Designer: June Letters Studio / Catering: Donovan’s Dish / Belle’s Catering / Rocky Top  / DJ: Bunn DJ Company / Makeup (not pictured): Perfection by Patricia / Videography: Silver Feather Studios / Event planning and design: Orangerie Events

Note: as I was invited as a guest and not the official event photographer I put the camera down after I helped Eclectic Sage setup to enjoy the evening as such: a guest.

Cheers to a wonderfully memorable and stunning opening night, Mim’s House! May you only have the best events under the roof of this marvelously historical and unique venue.

Happy Tuesday!
