Craft beer and wine from more 50 vendors will be available for tasting when the 6th annual Suds on the Shore event takes place on Aug. 16.

LUDINGTON, MI – Craft beer and wine from more 50 vendors will be available for tasting when the sixth annual Suds on the Shore event takes place on Aug. 16.

The festival will take place 1-7 p.m. at Ludington's scenic City Park located between Gaylord and Court streets. More than 100 samples of craft beer, hard cider and Michigan wine are expected to be available.

All proceeds from the event benefit the United Way of Mason County. Last year, the popular festival grossed more than $50,000 with a net profit of $30,000.

"We give the money we make back to the community to programs that help children to achieve their potential, and programs that help adults and their families to live self-sufficiently and healthy," said Lynne Russell, executive director for the United Way of Mason County.

Suds on the Shore was started by a group of people in the Ludington area with a passion for craft beer. More than 1,500 people attended last year's event and Russell said she hopes more than 2,000 people will attend this year's event, which has grown each year.

During its first year, the festival offered 18 to 20 beer and wine offerings. This year more than 100 different tastes will be available.

"We had to turn people down," Russell said. "Our reputation has grown over the years just by word of mouth. It's also a beautiful setting just three blocks from the beach."

Russell said the festival has gotten big enough to where people are planning vacations around it. She added that while the United Way is the only entity that directly profits, the festival is a "win-win" for the entire community because of the increased traffic for hotels, shops and restaurants.

Live entertainment will be provided by Fremont John, Bad Manners and Hullabaloo. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Jamesport Brewing Company, Pere Marquette Expeditions and the Mitten Bar.

The event is for those 21 and older. For more information, visit www.SudsontheShore.com
