Sevier County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested an Austin man for forgery last Thursday, November 17.

Deputies responded to a call from the Monroe Family Dollar on a report of a fake $50 that the alleged forgers tried to use for payment. The Family Dollar refused the bill after it failed tests and used security footage to identify the individuals who attempted to use the fraudulent funds. Deputies learned that the suspects had also attempted to use the bogus bucks at the Richfield McDonalds.

Investigators brought in the suspects for questioning and learned that Jason H. Kohl, 39, was allegedly washing $1 and $5 dollar bills. Kohl would later reprint the bills to look like $20 and $50 dollar bills.

After obtaining a warrant, deputies found equipment used to wash and print the bills as well as some drug paraphernalia at the home where Kohl was arrested.

Sheriff Curtis said that Kohl has been booked into the Sevier County jail on two counts of forgery and is being held on a $250,000 cash only bail. Kohl also had a $50,000 warrant out of Utah County for his involvement in a criminal case there.
