PROVO, Utah-Per a Tuesday report from KSL-TV Channel 5 in Salt Lake City, Brigham Young University has purchased the Provo High School Property at 1125 N. University Avenue for $25 million.

The Provo-based university, owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, obtained this land after the Provo City School District Board of Education voted to approve the sale of the 25 acres on which the school stands Tuesday morning.

The school district confirmed the vote was unanimous.

The new Provo High School will be built at 1300 N. Lakeshore Drive in Provo with a groundbreaking ceremony slated for Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 pm.

While the new building is being constructed, BYU will lease the current school grounds and facility to Provo School District who will be able to use the property rent-free for 30 months, per the agreement.

Before the sale becomes official, BYU will spend the next two months conducting a litany of studies on the property, including geological studies.

It is expected this process will be completed by July.
