Captain Jack Sparrow. Just because a reader asked.

I rarely trumpet this service, but Midlife Crisis Crossover maintains an open policy of Ask Almost Anything, which extends not only to regular readers and commenters, but also to constant Likers, silent Followers, and fleeting passersby. If you have a question, a suggestion, a comment that’s constructive or Dadaist, or a listicle request that the mainstream media refuses to attempt, simple reply here or to any other post of the vaguest tangential relevance, and our trusty MCC staff will be happy to escalate it into a Main Topic for a future entry and explore the subject further in depth. Or I might just reply to your comment, who knows.

Every so often we also review queries and curious sentence fragments from passing search engine users, because even the silent, fleeting passersby deserve to be heard, even if they’re no longer around to find the answer they needed. Because I need a break from movies and I’m working six days this week, a quick dive into the ol’ mailbag feels like a nice way to relax for a few minutes.

* the real life of capatian jack sparrow/ not the movie

Few moviegoers realize the character of Captain Jack Sparrow is based on the exploits of real-life pirate Jakub Sperovicz, a pirate from Warsaw who was renowned for his lifelong battle with rum addiction, his eventual arrest on multiple counts of boatjacking, and his CG monkey. During his heyday Sperowicz was in his mid-60s and suffered from chronic psoriasis. His story was tweaked a tad for typical Hollywood purposes.

* is there going to be another monsters university movie?

Pixar Studios appears to have ceded its throne to Disney Animation and become a sequel factory and merchandising empire. Over the next twenty years we can expect Monsters sequels to outnumber Police Academy sequels.

* Avery Brooks, William Shatner, crossover

Finally, someone imaginative enough to ask the real burning question: Kirk vs. Sisko — who would win? I’m among the vocal minority who consider Deep Space Nine their personal favorite among all the Trek series. In my head, the battle begins with Kirk attempting one of those clumsy, two-footed jump-kicks that work best against an opponent who’s either paralyzed or sleepwalking. Sisko sidesteps Kirk and watches him flop on the ground. While Kirk moans about his back pain and straightens his “hair”, Sisko’s finishing move is a single punch.

* revolution how is connor 25?

As we saw back in season one, future deposed dictator Sebastian “Bass” Monroe (David Lyons from The Cape) romanced a woman named Emma (Annie Werschling from 24), who at the time was the girlfriend of his best friend Miles Matheson (Billy Burke, a.k.a. Mustache Dad from the Twilight series). They were all teenagers at the time. Hence the youngling who would grow up into Mexican gangster Connor Bennett (newcomer Mat Vairo) was born a good decade before the blackout.

I have no idea why Miles arranged to hide Connor from Bass so many years before they turned to the dark side. Call it preemptive Skywalkering, I suppose.

* who played samuel adams in john adams hbo

That would be Danny Huston, whom we also saw shoot Hugh Jackman in the head in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That’s the kind of guy our Founding Fathers could be if you crossed them.

* is the corner the sequel to the wire?

The Corner came first and led to The Wire, even though the latter isn’t a direct sequel in the same continuity, though I understand they share a few actors. The Corner is near the top of my R-rated viewing pile, which moves at a much slower pace than the general-audience viewing pile, but I’ll get to it. And yes, I do have reasons for organizing to that extreme.

* did ron woodruff contract hiv from a homosexual encounter

I’m guessing you read about Dallas Buyers Club but didn’t see it. The short answer: absolutely, positively, emphatically no. If his lifestyle was anywhere near as free-wheeling as the movie’s depiction, needle-sharing and heterosexual encounters were equally likely to be the source, if not both.

* how much does a professional bull rider csr in pueblo, co make?

Hopefully more than just minimum wage, tips, and baseline ACA coverage.

* i know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog

Congratulations! Your new non-paying part-time second job will bring in no money and require you to spend at least six minutes per day writing and eight hours per day reading other bloggers’ blogs. Good luck. Remember, we’re all counting on you.

* choo choo train them coworkers gifts

Why you can’t just settle for buying them candy? Do them coworkers really want them there choo choo trains? Or are you buying them there folks choo choo trains because you secretly hope they’ll let you borrow them? That’s really selfish, y’know.

* skeletor fabulous

Maybe you think so. I can’t fathom why fans would flock to a hero with a name like “He-Man”. If the long-threatened movie version ever gets off the ground, I like to imagine the new origin will involve an ordinary guy named Adam Prince from Eternia, New Jersey, who’s granted mild super-strength and a terrible haircut when he’s bitten by a radioactive 70-year-old bodybuilder. Then his name might work. Barely.

* wardrobe malfunction in power rangers

…you’re a very different fan of the show, aren’t you? Please just go.
