2. VAS5054A Hardware
The VAS5054A is VW group’s diagnostic tool which can be used with ODIS and VAS-PC software. It can work through 2 connection modes - through Bluetooth and through USB cable.
------2.1 Buying Guide -
If you are looking to get a VAS5054A, you have two options - First up is the genuine one which won’t be easy to find and the ones I had seen on eBay were $1500 minimum - but keep in mind that there is no substitute for the genuine quality and reliability, and original VAS will be compatible with ODIS online, if you intend to use online odis.
The next option is to get a clone one. As is the case with all clone stuff coming from China, your mileage will vary. When performing functions like flashing a control module with clone hardware, do so at your own risk!!
There are many things to look out for before you get a clone VAS5054A. These are outlined below:

After installation of VAS-PC / ODIS, connect the VAS5054A to car OBD port and switch on the ignition, then use a mini usb cable (which you should have got with the VAS5054) to connect it to PC. Windows should automatically install the drivers and you should be able to see it in device manager.
