2014-02-10

The organisers have once again excelled at making their annual Mobile World Congress next to impossible to navigate for anyone interested in following the mHealth content (for a background on mHealth developments at Mobile World Congress check out my guides from 2013, 2012 and my mHealth reviews from 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011).

It’s confusing enough to have the two day mHealth stream confusingly renamed for 2014 as the “Health & Wellness ECH Alliance @ Mobile World Congress” but it’s going to be very challenging for attendees as this stream of seminars are being held in a completely different location from the exhibition and official GSMA mHealth seminars.

To ensure there’s even more confusion the mHealth sessions in the two different locations are also going to be running con-currently so you have to make a choice between either the GSMA’s mHealth seminar or the Wellness and Health ECHAlliance event which is taking place a 15 min cab/bus ride away in Fira Montjuic. Although not on the same site as the exhibition to just buy a ticket for the ECHAlliance event alone is €1699 so it’s better to register for a Mobile World Congress ticket at €749

and upgrade your pass to include the “mPowered Industries Health” option for an additional €225 (total = €749+€225 = €974) which will give you a €725 saving.

When you appreciate that only about 100 of the 60,000+ delegates attending Mobile World Congress would have enough interest in paying an additional fee to attend a mHealth session during Mobile World Congress it’s very odd to see the two separate events (one free and the other charged additionally) competing for the same audiences.

There’s no sign of the completely free to attend ‘Mobile Health in Action’ event at the Hospital del Mar that was launched in 2012 being repeated so to practically attend any of the events your best off registering at the bare minimum for the Mobile World Congress Exhibition.

The following guide includes a Monday-Thursday diary to the mHealth presentations and then below that is a hall by hall guide to exhibitors who are demoing mHealth apps, devices and services that you may find to be of interest. If you know of anything that I’ve missed please add it in the comments below and I’ll update the post. I hope you find it a helpful guide and that we get a chance to meet on my fleeting visit to Barcelona!
