Wayne State University prof Peter Hammer made headlines earlier this year for his criticism of Detroit Future CIty, the 347-page blueprint for redeveloping Detroit that Mike Duggan’s development chief has called “his bible.” Hammer outlined his problems with the plan in a panel at Detroit's Marygrove College in February.

"As I said in the talk, I have a large framing question — that’s really through the three R’s of race, regionalism, and reconciliation — and the failure of the report to adequately consider race and the history and context of racial conflict that produced many of the negative trends that we have today," Hammer told us.

A lot has happened since then, though — namely, developments on the regional water plan, the bankruptcy trial, the new Red Wings arena, and more. Hammer will once again lead a panel regarding the plan at "Futureshock 2: Another Look at the Detroit Future City Plan" Monday night at Marygrove College.

According to a press release, organizers hope to get representatives from the major developments to respond to Hammer's critique, and open the floor to audience questions as well.

The panel goes from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29 at Marygrove College in Alumni Dining Room at the Madame Cadillac Building.…
