About Asian Television Awards

Launched in 1996, Asian Television Awards (ATA) is the Asian TV industry’s most significant and celebrated event, recognizing excellence in programming, production and performance.

Determined by an expert panel of over 60 judges from across the region, the results are tabulated and audited by international auditing firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers, with the winners only announced during the Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner in December. The judging process has also been brought into the digital era by being conducted on-line. This is designed to lessen the judging workload and provide judges greater comfort and flexibility by enabling them to screen the entries at their own pace.

The Awards comprise over 30 categories and represent the industry’s foremost recognition by enjoying the support of every major industry player throughout the region. ATA attracts a multitude of entries from a wide range of broadcasters, including free-to-air television stations and pay-TV platforms, as well as many independent production houses in Asia.

In 2013, the Awards ceremony was televised regionally on STAR World and Channel [V], FOX International Channels’ leading general entertainment channel and music channel respectively, reaching to some 28 million households in Asia. With this inaugural regional broadcast, Asian audiences would now celebrate the achievements of their home-grown talent from the comfort of their living rooms, or on multiple devices in the new multi screen environments that many content providers offer.

ATA is positioned as the only event of its kind within the Asian region, and upholds a prestigious reputation of showcasing quality television production.

About Award for Outstanding Contribution to Asian Television

In keeping with Asian Television Awards’ (ATA) continuing efforts to reward individuals who have made significant contributions to the industry, the ATA Board has introduced the award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Asian Television in 2013.

The award may be bestowed on any member of the industry whose primary base and/ or area of contribution is in the Asia-Pacific region. TV executives and managers, on and off-screen talent, composers etc. are possible candidates. In contrast to the 38 ATA award categories in competition each year, the award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Asian Television’ is not a competing award and is thus nominated by the ATA Board, with input from the editor of official publication Television Asia Plus. Instead of an individual, the board may choose to confer the award to a group of individuals, or an organisation; and may even present an award posthumously.
