SABATON‘s seventh studio album, Heroes, catapulted the band to their first appearance on the American Billboard Top 100 chart in June 2014 with a debut at #99 by tripling the first-week album sales of 2012’s Carolus Rex. Heroes also held the #7 position on the Billboard Hard Rock/Metal chart and debuted at #105 on the Canadian Billboard Top 200 album chart and #11 on the Canadian Hard Rock/Metal chart.

About SABATON:

Formed in Falun, Sweden in 1999, the band is best known for singing almost exclusively about historical wars & battles, a direction SABATON members decided to take on after watching the 1999 Academy Award-winning film Saving Private Ryan.  “For us it means a lot more to write about historical events than to make up stories,” says bassist Pär Sundström, one of the main songwriters.  The band thoroughly researches their topics to ensure the songs paint accurate & objective portraits of the historical event they’re singing about, which are narrated from an omniscient point-of-view or in first-person as a soldier caught in the line of fire.  Like their home country of Sweden, SABATON aims to remain politically neutral in their role as musical war historians.

SABATON introduced themselves to North American audiences via special performances at Austin’s annual South By Southwest Festival in 2008 and Atlanta’s annual ProgPower Festival in 2009.  Their 2010 album, Coat Of Arms, entered SABATON into the American Billboard charts for the first time (#124 – Heatseekers; #87 – Top Hard Music), achieved Gold status in Poland, and debuted on the European Billboard Top 100 Albums chart at #34.  Their worldwide momentum continued to grow from there. Worldwide first-week chart entries for Coat Of Arms included: Sweden #4; Poland #9; Finland #17; Germany #19; Switzerland #33 and Austria #71.

The video for the Coat Of Arms single “Uprising” (which has since become a live staple) was directed by Jacek Raginis (a relative of decorated World War II hero Wladyslav Raginis) and produced by Bogna Janiec of Studio Filmowe N.  Shot in Poland with over 100 actors clothed in period dress, over 200 on-set staffers worked around-the-clock for two days to help create a powerful and emotional tribute to those who lost their lives in the Warsaw uprising in 1944. A testament to the band’s eye for historical detail and now touting over 2 million views, the video includes appearances by Swedish actor Peter Stormare (Fargo, 8MM, Prison Break), Polish actors Mateusz Damięcki and Monika Buchowiec, and General Waldemar Skrzypczak of the Polish army.

The band’s maiden tour of the U.S. and Canada was as main support for German heavy metal legends ACCEPT in 2011. The response to their live show was so great that they returned five months later as headliners with Evergrey.  Later that year, SABATON performed on the annual 70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise.  Overseas, they shared stages with heavy metal heritage bands JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, and SCORPIONS, then returned to North America to headline two tours supporting their 2012 Billboard-charting album Carolus Rex (#29 on the Heatseekers chart), which once again achieved Gold status for SABATON in Poland.

Elevating the human spirit has long been SABATON’s specialty, and the masses have responded in-kind. With fans clamoring for a recording of their energetic live shows, SABATON recorded World War Live: Battle Of The Baltic Sea on their annual SABATON Cruise in 2010.  Released in 2011, the album debuted at #7 in Poland, #26 in Germany, #26 in Sweden, and #62 in Switzerland – an unusual feat for a live album. In 2013, SABATON toured Europe with IRON MAIDEN as their opening act then opened for them again in California at 2013’s Battle of San Bernardino.  To respond to their rapidly growing fan base in the U.S. and Canada, SABATON returned to North America twice in 2014 with ICED EARTH‘s “Worldwide Plagues Tour” and AMON AMARTH’s “Deceiver Of The Gods Tour.” The band has won many awards including a Golden Gods Award from Metal Hammer U.K., various Swedish Metal awards including a Swedish Radio P4 Award, Radio Bandit Award, and two Swedish Grammy nominations.

SABATON continue to play at almost every major European festival each summer.  Since 2007, they’ve operated their own 3-day open air festival in Falun, Sweden and sell-out their annual ocean cruise with over 2,000 SABATON fans on board.  Their 2011 “World War Live Tour” took them to over 30 countries to play over 200 concerts at mainly sold out venues packed from wall-to-wall with fans dressed in authentic war regalia (who are also known to travel hundreds of miles to attend multiple shows) chanting “SA-BA-TON! SA-BA-TON!” in unison.

Made honorary citizens of Poland for their role in preserving the history of Polish resistance during World War II, their spine-tingling experiences with the Polish audience were captured on SABATON’s 2013 live DVD/CD release Swedish Empire Live.  Filmed in front of 600,000+ enthusiastic fans at their headlining festival appearance at Poland’s Woodstock Festival in 2012, it also documents the largest live production in the band’s history.

In June 2014,  SABATON tripled their first-week U.S. sales numbers with the release of their seventh studio album, Heroes, catapulting them to their first appearance on the American Billboard Top 100 chart with a debut at #99. Heroes also held the #7 position on the Billboard Hard Rock/Metal chart and debuted at #105 on the Canadian Billboard Top 200 album chart and #11 on the Canadian Hard Rock/Metal chart.

Like the triumph of humanity they so frequently sing about, SABATON’s star is rapidly on the rise.
