The world’s biggest heavy music touring festival, the 8th annual ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL, kicks off next week with another stellar heavy metal and hard rock line-up. Featuring 13 bands performing on the ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAIN STAGE and the VICTORY RECORDS STAGE, the festival will feature five-time-nominated, two-time Grammy winning legends Slayer as headliners, as well as additional performances from King Diamond, HELLYEAH, The Devil Wears Prada, Whitechapel, Thy Art Is Murder, Jungle Rot, Sister Sin, Sworn In, Shattered Sun, Feed Her To The Sharks, Code Orange and Kissing Candice.
The ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL is pleased to once again present initiatives with the amazing Metal of Honor charity program. Metal of Honor started in 2011 to raise awareness and financial support to a few key military non-profits while showing gratitude to our military men and women during the ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL tour. In conjunction with this year’s Metal of Honor activities, The Puppy Rescue Mission and Team Red White and Blue charities will have a presence at many of festival stops, and COLDCOCK Whiskey will also host special military meet and greets for veterans, and will provide guitars signed by Slayer for this year’s Hometown Heroes.
This year, Metal Of Honor will specifically highlight the very special Musicians Institute Steve Robinson Metal of Honor Veterans Scholarship (named after late veterans advocate and celebrated Metal of Honor team member Steve Robinson), and will focus donations towards OneMaps, The Pathway Home, and Hope for the Warriors. See the bottom of this release for more information on these charities.
Musicians Institute—the College of Contemporary Music in Hollywood—has announced the brand new Steve Robinson Metal of Honor Veterans Scholarship, sponsored by the ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL’s iHome – Metal of Honor program which will award $10,000 in tuition credit at Musicians Institute to support the educational growth of a newly enrolling U.S. military veteran who clearly articulates their personal history, current circumstances and future goals in the music industry. The scholarship may be applied to any program offered at MI. The scholarship is available to veterans who will be enrolled in any Certificate, Associate of Arts or Bachelor Degree Program at MI beginning in Fall 2015. Applicants are invited to submit a 3 minute (maximum) video recording (DVD format only) describing their personal circumstances, biographical background, future goals in the music industry and why they should be chosen as a winner. The deadline for Fall 2015 applicants is August 28, 2015. For complete details and application form, click HERE.
“On behalf of everyone at Musicians Institute, we are extremely proud that Metal of Honor is helping veterans pave the way in pursuit of a professional music education by sponsoring this fantastic scholarship! We are thrilled to recognize and support deserving veterans by providing this opportunity in honor of the extraordinary role model and veterans advocate; Steve Robinson. We thank Metal of Honor for their ongoing support of veterans, and the creation of this exceptional scholarship,” states Beth Marlis, Vice President of Industry and Community Relations at Musicians Institute.
“What an awesome way to honor my husband Steve. This thoughtful educational music scholarship at Musicians Institute represents and supports his advocacy for our military veterans, but also on a personal level, his love and appreciation of music, its ability to help heal and the power of music to unite people,” adds Patti Robinson. “My heartfelt gratitude goes to Metal of Honor for leading the way, for their generous sponsorship, and ongoing loyal support to our military veterans and Steve’s legacy.”
Prior to his untimely death, Steve Robinson worked intensely with his brother-in-law, Kip Bradley, on a veterans program called One MAPS. Thanks to a donation from the Metal of Honor program submitted last year, the Metal of Honor program, along with other donors, are proud to be able to help ONEMaps become a reality. One MAPS, Inc. provides our veterans with a free Mission Awareness Program; a plan designed by veterans, for veterans. Only in the military do we train people to go into trauma and then not train them when they come back home. We teach them to turn off the brain’s normal response to trauma, get them to override fight/flight or freeze, go do what we need them to do and then wonder why we have a “problem” when we come back home. One MAPS will not tell a veteran that they have a problem or that they are broken, because they are not either of those, but rather give that veteran the missing component in their Warriorship and training. And if need be, One MAPS will also give that veteran’s family the same block of instruction so they are not sent home for failure. One MAPS will assist these veterans with a MAP to debrief after their mission while also teaching them skills to downregulate is a re-balancing tool that can be applied to their internal battle of readjustment ultimately returning them to a peaceful place at home and in society. Patti Robinson adds, “Metal of Honor has been a keen supporter of One MAPS, Inc. One MAPS is a direct extension of Steve and what he cared about most – healing, self-empowerment and the meaningful camaraderie of veterans helping veterans. Because of Metal of Honor‘s support, this unfinished project now exists. Steve’s vision will carry on and go forward as we continue on the path he carved for us. This would not have been possible if it wasn’t for our extraordinary friends at Metal of Honor.”
“One MAPS Inc. is honored to be partnered with the ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL in continuing our mission and Steve’s legacy,” adds One MAPS lead instructor Kip Bradley. “He believed in what we are doing and knew that it works.”
