Himachal Pradesh becomes first state to launch green-concept based State Data Centre

Himachal Pradesh became the first state in the country to have a State Data Centre (SDC), designed

using green data centre concept to minimize power requirement and increase power utilization

efficiency. It was launched by the Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in Shimla.

Microsoft agrees to buy LinkedIn for $26.2 billion

1.Microsoft Corp agreed to buy LinkedIn Corp for $26.2 billion in cash, the companies said in a

statement on Monday.

2. The offer of $196 per share represents a premium of 49.5 percent to LinkedIn's Friday closing

price.“Today is a re-founding moment for LinkedIn,” Reid Hoffman, chairman of LinkedIn's board,

said in a statement. Jeff Weiner will remain chief executive of LinkedIn, reporting to Microsoft CEO

Satya Nadella. The deal is expected to close in 2016.

Cabinet approves SBI takeover of units

1. A cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the takeover by State Bank of

India (SBI) of several subsidiaries.

2. The merged entity will create a banking giant, which can compete with the largest in the world

with an asset base of almost Rs 37 lakh crore, with 22,500 branches and 58,000 ATMs as on

December 2015. SBI alone has close to 16,500 branches, including 198 foreign offices spread across

36 countries.

International Yoga Day 2016

1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will do Yoga on June 21 at Capitol Complex, Chandigargh. He is

happy to have been picked for the mega event.

2. A total of 30,000 participants —10,000 each from Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana — will

participate in the event. While the main event will be held at Capitol Complex, city residents will do

yoga at a total of 180 centres across the city. Patanjali is known as the ‘father of Yoga’. He is the

author for scriptures on yoga, known as ‘The Yoga Sutras’.

ISRO launch Successfully 20 satellites

1. Gearing up for the mission to launch 20 satellites in a single rocket, the Indian Space Research

Organisation (ISRO) day commenced the 48-hour countdown for the launch of PSLV C-34 rocket. It

will lift off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota at 9.25 a.m. on June 22.

2. Apart from a Cartosat-2 series satellite, the rocket will also launch LAPAN-A3 (Indonesia), BIROS (Germany), M3MSat (Canada), SkySat Gen2-1 (U.S.), GHGSat-D (Canada), 12 Dove Satellites (U.S.), Sathyabamasat (Sathyabama University, Chennai) and Swayam satellites (College of Engineering, Pune). The 725.5-kg Cartosat-2 series satellite will enhance Earth observation.

Google launches Gboard for iPhone users in India

Online search engine giant Google launched a new keyboard app called ‘Gboard’ for Apple iOS users

in India. The app lets users search and send information, GIFs, emojis and more — right from their

keyboard.

Andhra Postal circle releases stamps on Yoga booklet

1. To commemorate the International Day of Yoga, Andhra Pradesh Postal circle have organized the

programme of releasing the booklet for public and stamps on yoga for Philatelists.

2. The booklet contained illustrations and description of 24 yoga asana (postures) while 12 stamps

on Suryanamaskarams were released.

3. Director of Postal Services K Soma Sundaram stated that the department of posts released the

booklet to encourage customers and employees to take to yoga. He said the special stamps are

limited edition collection which will interest philatelists.

PM releases book titled “The Birds of Banni Grassland”

1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released a book titled “The Birds of Banni Grassland” in New

Delhi. The Book is a compilation of the research work, relating to more than 250 species of birds

found in the Banni area of Kutch, Gujarat.

2. The book was presented to the Prime Minister by the Scientists of Gujarat Institute of Desert

Ecology. The Gujarat Institute of Desert Ecology, located at Bhuj, has been studying the plant, bird

and marine life in the Rann of Kutch for over 15 years.
