Recommended Books To Help Clear Bank PO and Clerk Exams

Preparing for bank exams is not an easy task. There are a few hundred thousand aspirants appearing to get selected for a vacancy of just a few thousand jobs. While this may seem a bit daunting task for many out there reading this post, a good solid preparation is VERY IMPORTANT if you want to have even the slightest chance of getting through the first round.
If you are a God gifted genius, avoid reading this post. For those of you like me who are not, here is a quick breakdown of how you should start your preparation and go on till the last day. You will need books to study from, as I honestly dont recommend notes because:

They are mostly made out of these books.

You pay a large sum of money to get what you could get cheaply.

I do not recommend rote or “ratta” . I am a strong advocate for self learning.

Starting Your Preparation – Books Needed

The first thing you need to do is get an outline of the syllabus. For most of the bank exams, the following topics are common:

Quantitative Aptitude

Data Interpretation

General English

Computer Knowledge

Daily Current Affairs

Banking Knowledge

We will tackle these one by one, recommending books along the way.

1. Quantitative Aptitude / Reasoning: QA questions consist of topics like age, HCF and LCM, percentage, permutation and combinations, time, distance, square and cube roots and such stuff. The questions can look tricky at first, but once you have a clear understanding of the topics and the way of solving them quickly, these questions should be looked at as easy marks.

2. Data Interpretation: This section consists mostly of graphical questions and questions based on charts and graphs of different types like bar graph, pie chart, line charts etc. This section is usually time consuming hence I recommend that you attempt this section in the end. To score and get past the cutoff, it is highly necessary that you have speed to solve these questions. You can improve your speed by attempting questions on the lines of what have appeared in the exams in the previous years.

3. General English:This is, according to our analysis, the most scoring section in the entire exam, and a section that I usually score 35+ in less than 20 minutes. It may vary, however, from person to person. The easiest way to score in this section is by having a strong English foundation. For those who have a weak foundation, I recommend reading newspapers like Hindustan Times and The Hindu, for I find their English very good. Also, read a lot of novels, story books and magazines, for they help you get an insights on which type of words fit where.

4. Computer Knowledge: Again, this is a high scoring section for those who have the basic knowledge of computers. Mostly, questions are asked on networking topologies (basics), computer peripherals, MS-Office and MS-DOS and the internet. You can easily score good marks if you read the questions carefully.

5. Banking Knowledge:This section is gaining importance with every exam. AND why not. You need to have knowledge about the industry you are getting into. This section covers a wide variety of topics, so is an average scoring section for most. You can increase your banking awareness by our banking awareness notes for your better ibps exam preparation.

6. General Awareness/Daily Current Affairs: As the name suggest, this topic is best prepared by being aware of the world around you. Make it a regular habit of going through the newspapers and the news to know what is happening around the world in different arenas like politics and sports and science. I would not recommend you books for this as current affairs are regularly changing. I would recommend that you buy a “current affairs refresher” book 3-4 weeks before the date of your exam and go through it thoroughly.

Recommended Books For Interview

Here are a few books that you can go through to clear the interviews. They are listed below.

Some Important Tips for Time management for IBPS online Exam:

Time management tips for bank exams section wise

Time management tips

For any competitive exam the organisation behind it was testing the candidates through their examinations. Candidates have to qualify in the exam which they pose initially in order to select for the role to which they have applied. After qualifying in the written exam candidates will be taken through interview round which was a completely different scenario? In the written exam they will be asked various number of questions through different categories with little time. By doing so they can judge the candidates quality of time management, his ability to answer questions at peak time and so on. Time plays such a crucial role in the written exam and when it comes to competitive exams like IBPS, SBI, SSC, RRB, Bank, PO, clerk, CWE and many it was no different from running with scissors. Candidates before attempting these competitive examinations they have to know the time management tips through which they can easily come through these exams.

With the bank, IBPS exams for posts of clerk, PO, SO and so on were rolling out every day candidates were involved in deep preparation. We are now here to add some tips in their preparation which makes them complete with their syllabus. Basically in the Time management for bank exams candidates have to know the sections and should identify the sections in which they are strong. If you identify then half of your work is done.

Choosing sections in which they are strong

Majority of bank exams have topics like Computer, General Awareness, English Language, Quantitative aptitude and Reasoning. Among these sections first identify your strong zone and go for it directly. Attempt as many questions as possible in this section. In order to qualify in the written exam you have to clear all the sections. So first attempt the favourite section and then move on to your second priority. So attempt questions in each section and try to score as much as possible.

Analysis of each section

You should prepare for the general awareness section well before the exam. If you are good at English language then you can put it in the second priority or third. Computer knowledge questions were easy to attempt. These three sections should be attempted first.

Our sincere request to the candidates is that after attempting those three sections just go out for Quantitative aptitude section. Questions from this section were easy and take little time to solve. You can easily attempt 90 % of questions from this section if you are a speed mathematician.

Reasoning section should be attempted at last. It was the difficult section among the others which involves high risk of failure and consumes large time for every question. If there was no negative marking then you can attempt as many as possible.

Dividing time among the sections

Make a note that do not divide time equally for all sections. Spend much time in the section in which you are strong. The best possible separation of time between sections was given below.

Computer: 10 minutes

General Awareness: 12 minutes

English Language: 18 minutes

Quantitative aptitude: 35 minutes

Reasoning: 35 minutes

Time divided: 110 minutes

Total time: 120 minutes

The above timings may vary based on your interest. After completing with the balance 10 minutes of time cross check the complete paper for any errors or wrong posed answers. If you find a question difficult then leave the question instead of hanging to it. Follow these steps as they definitely play a crucial role in your success.

It this scenario, the key to success is “Time Management and Question Selection”. Further in this post, we will guide you on what all aspects you must take care of while appearing for SBI PO 2016… Also read most important article know about Salary Structure of Clerk Job In PSU Banks.

We advice you to first attempt the section which is your area of strength. For example, it you are good with maths then attempt the quant section first and try to score maximum.

As a general and widely followed approach, it is suggested to start with GK+Banking+ Marketing+Computer section as 50 questions of this section can be easily attempted in maximum 10-15 minutes depending on your reading speed. In this way you will be left with around 105 minutes to spend on 3 sections which averages around 35 minutes per section.

Manage your time smartly and make right choices when deciding which question to attempt.

Do not let your ego come into play when you are stuck at some question, just leave it there and move on to next one.

Be smart, do not try to solve each and every question because not every question in the paper is supposed to be solved, some questions are put in the exam paper as a barrier with only purpose to engage you and waste your time. So be reasonable and identify those type of questions wisely so that you do not stumble upon them.

English Section:- If you have healthy reading habit and possess good reading speed, you can definitely save some precious amount of time in this section which can be better utilized in any other section. This section can be seen as broadly divided into two parts with comprehensions on one side and rest (FIB, para-jumbles, sentence correction etc.) on the other side. Now its up to you to judge how you want to approach this section because you are the best judge of your knowledge and strengths. As a word of advice, if you are good with comprehensions then attempt them first and vice-versa

Accuracy level matters very much. Do not attempt questions in haste and remember negative marking is there, so focus on question selection.

Quant and Reasoning section: To perform well in these sections, practice as much as you can and again, chose questions wisely in these sections because the chances of tangling in a question are highest in these sections.

How to succeed in Data Analysis & Interpretation

Data Interpretation questions are based on facts, tables, pie charts and diagrams. The more you practice such questions, the more will be comfortable in solving them. It is expected that 25-30 questions will be from this section.

Data Analysis: This is a tricky section this year. Introduced in 2014 for the first time on the content of this section. As per our experiences and advice from coaching institute experts we have prepared the following probable list of type questions that may possibly be covered this section.

What type of questions can be there in Data Analysis

What Topics can be there in Reasoning
As per Notification of SBI, this year reasoning will be of high level. So according to our study and predictions these topics will constitute the syllabus:

Arrangement Questions: 15 Marks (10 Of multi Hierarchy and 5 of Single Hierarchy

Relationship Questions: 3-5 Marks

Questions related to Assumption, conclusion and Inference: 10-15 Marks

Pattern Following problems: 5 Marks

Symbol Questionnaire problems: 5 Marks

Questions related to Syllogism: 3-5 Marks

Other: 5-10 marks

How to prepare for Reasoning
In reasoning the questions are either single or in form of multiple questions. Try to solve the multiple questions first and figure out the simple questions.  The points you must take care while attempting reasoning section are:

Don’t waste much time on questions where you have any doubt as this may result in you getting stuck and lose time.

Refrain from solving very lengthy questions if it looks difficult at first sight. First solve those you are confident about and then come back to solve these, if time allows

Practice the ‘assumption, conclusion and inference type questions’ properly. They may constitute a large part of this section.

Practice puzzle and sequence following questions. If you properly attempt these questions you can add at least 10-15 marks to your score card.

Practice syllogism questions as there is hardly any aptitude exam in which these questions are not asked in reasoning section.

What can be there in General Awareness section
In SBI PO exam, GA section is not purely based on questions from general knowledge or current affairs, but instead it is a mix of:

Questions related to General Knowledge/Current Affairs ( last 6 to 12 months)

Questions Related to Banking Awareness

Questions related  to Marketing knowledge
