The Mifflin County School District has implemented the option of a three-hour delay when inclement weather is expected. School delays, early dismissals and cancellation will be determined based on the forecast and provided to local radio stations, on the district’s website and on Skylert. It’s worth noting that the Mifflin County School District does not always run on the same schedule as neighboring school districts.

Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill is scheduled to become a Level Two trauma center. A construction project will expand the emergency department. The project is expected to be completed by October. The hospital plans to add a two-story addition and a helicopter pad. The first phase will impact automobile and pedestrian traffic.

The CDC is warning women to be aware of the dangers of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Research shows alcohol can hurt the baby during any part of pregnancy, including the first couple of months, when women may not yet know they are pregnant. Drinking during pregnancy can cause permanent health issues for children, including brain damage, heart and kidney problems along with low birth weight and growth.

Legendary BMX athlete Dave Mirra died yesterday afternoon in North Carolina. Police said he died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Mirra was instrumental in bringing the sport to thousands. He was one of the most decorated athletes in X games history. Many in the midstate may remember when Mirra performed at Camp Woodward in Centre County. He was 41.

Northumberland County Commissioners will consider an alternate site for a new prison to replace the one that burned down in Sunbury over a year ago. The County Prison Board got a look at four different designs for the new prison. The warden came forward to endorse the design which would house the most inmates and cost about 38-million dollars. The county has already bought the former Knight-Celotex industrial site for 2 million dollars. But the Commissioners say they are not set on that site.
