01. Eagles & Butterflies - Studio 54 (John Tejada Remix) (Nova Disco EP) [Manual Music | MAN116]

After having done a fine remix for Alice Rose on Manual + his 'Clandestin EP' on our MNL label we're happy to welcome Eagles & Butterflies on board with his full Manual Music single debut 'Nova Disco EP'. This talented Englishman has been turning quite some heads this year with his releases on Bedrock and Sudbeat + with his residency at Space Ibiza where he played alongside Felix The Housecat on his Clandestin night.

'Nova Disco EP' kicks off with the 'Studio 54' track, a lush offbeat tune with clever usage of a famous 80's synth pop classic. Do you recognise it? Main man John Tejada was on our wish list for many years already and we're happy that we can finally welcome him on board with a big remix for 'Studio 54'. He turns the sweet and mellow original into a melodic dance-floor journey. Eagles & Butterflies ends things in style with 'The Red Room', a more straight forward no-nonsense dance-floor tune.

A big release by a man from which you'll be hearing a lot more in the near future!

02. Rae & Christian - 1975 (Moody Manc's Coming Up Dub) [Late Night Tales | ALND 1233]

"A housier dub for the clubs" [Moody Manc]

'Mercury Rising' is the third studio album to be released by Rae & Christian. The duo weave together exceptional musicianship paired with a British song writing sensibility and the finest elements of studio production.

'Mercury Rising' was created at producer/musician Steve Christian's studio in Yorkshire with additional recording at songwriter/vocalist/DJ Mark Rae's London base. In London a song writing bond was formed with Ed Harcourt and Gita Langley who make excellent contributions with vocals, songs, strings and keys.

Sam Genders of Diagrams threads a story of redemption lost on the Ubahn on '1975', Kate Rogers is on imperious form and rising star Jake Emlyn unravels a whole new level of microphone skills on 'Favourite Game'. The international guests include the one-and-only Jazzy Jeff and Australia's Agent 86 dealing out world class scratch treatments on 'Check The Technique' (Tony D's vocals taken from a session recorded at the birth of Grand Central Records), Brooklyn rapper Masta Ace and Mark Foster of Foster The People, a collaboration born from Mark's L.A. excursion.

'Mercury Rising' is the first new material in many years from R&C. Their 1998 Mercury Music Prize nominated debut 'Northern Sulphuric Soul' ("Vitally fresh and timelessly classic...deserving a place alongside Massive Attack's Blue Lines" Uncut) and 2002's 'Sleepwalking' ("Another triumph, brimming with soulful, languid grooves, deft samples and well-chosen guest singers" Q Magazine) were both released on their Grand Central Records label (Aim, Riton, Boca 45, Only Child), a defining imprint of the late 90s soul/funk/hip-hop/beats scene. Guest vocalists over the two albums included Bobby Womack, Texas, The Congos, The Pharcyde, The Jungle Brothers and Jeru The Damaja.

03. Simon Baker - Complicated [My Favourite Robot Records | MFR087]

Esteemed UK DJ and House & Techno producer Simon Baker here makes his first full appearance on the My Favorite Robot label with a brand new four track EP that showcases the man’s meticulous production in fine style. Over the years, London based Baker has appeared on labels like Last Night on Earth, Leftroom and also 2020 Vision with his fantastic full length from 2011, ‘Traces’. His style ranges from infectious tech to hugely musical house imbued with real

chords and artfully played pianos as well as some killer percussive hooks.

Opening up his account is ‘Standards’, a super cool and slightly eerie track with militant snares and plenty of neon and sneaky synth lines that weave their way throughout the arrangement and proves Baker has taken his production to the next level yet again.

‘Whut’ is next and is a spacious and late night cut with distant shadowy vocals and glowing harmonics that bring to mind the pristine bell sounds of Pantha du Prince. It ebbs and flows blissfully and is a perfect tune to bring you down as night turns to morning.

The title track ‘Sonar’ is another wispy and darkly celestial affair with enticing and intriguing melodies and echoing voices luring you into the centre of the action. The beats are crisp and well defined and form long wavy forms that surreptitiously sweep you up.

‘Complicated’ is the most direct and physical of the tracks, with torque-y drums, slapping snares and airy hi hats all surging along. More deftly treated, slurred and whispering voices fill in the spaces left behind, as

do rubbery bass vamps and plenty of metallic melodies.

This exquisite Sonar EP marks something of a new direction for Baker, one that is evocative of an unnerving future world exactly fitting of the My Favorite Robot label.

04. Omid 16b - Escape (Driving To Heaven) (Omid 16B & Arnas D Remix) [aLOLa Records | Promo]

“After 20 years of releasing music on aLOLa you almost come to a point where it goes in big circles and you see the same vibe come back at you like it once did the first time round, but with a host of new producers and DJs discovering it all for the first time. "Escape" is that kind of track, one that doesn’t seem to age due to its broad cross-genre appeal and an energy that’s kept it relevant, even though it was originally released over 10 years ago.” – Omid 16B

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of his highly respected aLoLa record label, Omid 16B is marking this landmark achievement with a series of special releases and amazing parties throughout 2013. Now, as he puts the finishing touches to his forthcoming label mix compilation, it is time to revisit one of his finest creations.

When “Escape (Driving To Heaven)” by Omid 16B featuring the distinctive vocals of Richard Morel was first released on 29th October 2001 on the ground-breaking (now defunct) Hooj Choons label, it became one of the landmark releases of that era, an undisputed classic, that is to this day, regarded as one of the most unique and influential tracks of our time.

Now, in 2013, as part of the “20 Years Of aLoLa” celebrations, Omid 16B has sought out and commissioned a series of exceptional, diverse remixes to introduce “Escape” to a new audience and bring memories flooding back to those who remember the past.

“These two remix packs involve some of the most respected and genre breaking artists in my eyes, people who have their own sound and never really conform to any particular style, creating their own interpretation of the original with a variety of distinctly different ideas, yet staying true to the spirit of this classic track.” – Omid 16B

Whether you favour Omid 16B and Arnas D’s delicious, soul filled & hypnotic vibes; Guy J’s euphoric masterpiece; Betoko’s seductive deepness; Mindskap’s twitchy tech energy boost; Kevin Di Serna’s twisted experimentation or Alex George’s heavy techno take - the classic vibe shines through as strong as ever.

Whether you favour Spin Science’s daring bass driven takes; Maher Daniel’s masterstroke slow motion moment; Silky and Johnny Cruz’s acidic attitude; or the still stunning original album version – the classic vibe shines through as strong as ever. Revisiting the past rarely feels so good!

05. Heiko Laux with Diego Hostettler - Canis Major Part 1 [Ovum Recordings | OVM-235]

Heiko Laux debuts on Ovum with Canis Major Part 1 & 2 Berlin based producer Heiko Laux has been steadily releasing quality music via his Kanzelramt label for the best part of twenty years now. Here he steps away from the reigns to make his debut on Josh Wink's Ovum imprint, working with past-time collaborator Diego Hostettler to produce this astounding techno two-tracker.

Canis Major Part 1 begins with throbbing chord stabs, and a clipped tech-house beat, and then proceeds to descend on a hypnotic trip which takes the listener well and truly down the proverbial rabbit hole. Intoxicating cosmic arpeggios scatter around like shimmering ghosts, while a pulsating bass-line swells beneath the surface.

Canis Major Part 2 steps into dubbier territory on the flip, driving forward as before whilst filtering the chord stabs into a low ebb, creating an alien soundscape which leads this remarkable EP to its natural conclusion.

[DJ Broadcast Review]

Heiko Laux didn't stop for breath in between these two great new releases on legend Josh Wink's label Ovum Recordings, both of which he completed a week apart from each other. After years of running his own imprint Kanzleramt (which just had its 20th anniversary) and releasing through it, he takes a back seat this time to let Ovum do the rest of the work, with Alexander Lukat and Diego Hostettler as repective partners in crime for each release.

These two pairs of tunes will be released in November, so here at DJBroadcast we're giving our readers a full preview of both the Lucho and Canis Major EPs. These releases are exactly the kind of forward-thinking techno we like to endorse at DJB.

Lucho Part 1 & 2, is a collaboration with Alexander Lukat a.k.a. DJ Luke. Lucho Part 1 goes straight in, tension rising with plenty of ominous thuds siding on. This heady minimalism and darkness continues with Lucho Part 2, with shimmering delay that serves both to confuse and amaze.

In the first half of Canis Major Part 1 & 2, Laux brings out funkier vibes, with a hint of disco cheer. Both collaborations with Diego Hostettler, the second side goes by a similar philosophy with a sweeter take on techno. They throw a bit of dub in this time, and finish the EP on a heavy but optimistic note.

06. Pan-Pot - The Mirror [Mobilee Records | MOBILLEE 119]

The start of the new millennium brought change, innovation and an array of technological developments. New names appeared on the international techno scene like never before, and one of the biggest to emerge over the last decade has undoubtedly been Berlin-based techno duo, Pan-Pot.

2013 marks Pan-Pot’s illustrious 10 year anniversary, and to celebrate, the pair will visit selected clubs as they embark on the X-tour – a series of 10 shows in Europe and abroad from late October through to December.

From humble beginnings at Berlin’s SAE institute in 2003, Tassilo Ippenberger and Thomas Benedix joined forces to present their dark and murky take on techno to the world. 10 years later, the pair has established themselves as one of the mainstays on Berlin label mobilee, with countless releases and a constantly heavy touring schedule.

Pan-Pot are hard-working, determined and endlessly inventive. Over the past 10 years, the pair have developed into DJ superstars, regularly headlining festivals or filling packed stadiums around the word. More often than not, they are playing sold out shows where their unique stage presence shines through and can be felt by each and every member of the crowd. On top of this, Pan-Pot have created their own distinct sound which is prevalent in their DJ sets and is revered by followers and peers worldwide.

As well as celebrating their 10 years together, Pan-Pot will hit the road to give something back to the fans that continue to support them. The X-tour will see Pan-Pot playing extended sets at 10 selected gigs, each showcasing the entire spectrum of their music from the beginning of their career until today. Starting in Neuss on October 2nd, the tour will see the pair appear in Tel Aviv, Munich, Barcelona, Istanbul, Milan, Rotterdam, Paris and Hamburg with a final stop in Berlin’s Watergate on December 14th.

In conjunction with the X-tour, a short video has been produced by video artist Hakan Can. Pan-Pot will also release a new two track EP called “The Mirror”, which will be available on mobilee records from October 18th.

2013 has already seen some stellar collaborations. From high profile team ups between Nile Rodgers and a host of stars, most notably Daft Punk to more underground projects like techno originator Juan Atkins hooking up with Basic Channel’s Moritz Von Oswald to form Borderland or Regis departing from Sandwell District to form Jealous God and Concrete Fence, it certainly has been a year where teamwork has been the name of the game.

The latest artists to share a new joint project are John Digweed and Nick Muir with the Bedrock boss revealing the pairing have collaborated on a three disc album set entitled Versus and that it will be seeing release via his imprint this October. The project sprung from humble beginnings with the duo initially planning a “remix swap” before an “extended EP” was written and “then out of nowhere... an album with many twists and turns.”

As a project it has seen Digweed and Muir edit twelve of their current favourites with efforts from Jozif, Psycatron, Guy J and Pig & Dan all featuring on the first CD before being mixed together by Digweed before the second reveals ten of them unmixed. The third disc however is the one likely to generate excitement as it boasts eight original cuts from Digweed and Muir and will showcase their time in the studio together. . In addition to the limited-edition CD release, which also features a 20-page booklet, Bedrock will release a triple-vinyl edition with 11 of the Versus tracks.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to these brilliant artists for making this project happen" [John Digweed]

08. Mr. C - The Future (Omid 16b Dub Remix) [Superfreq | SFD008]

Mr.C is back on his own Superfreq label with ‘The Future’, one of the key cuts from his recent album ’Smell the Coffee’. The track is inspired by “seeing so many people on the party scene who don’t get involved and do nothing about what is going on around the world” or “the pathetic apathetic” as Mr.C calls them. It’s a typically deep and spiritual backstory and makes for a fantastic single that is lead up by some killer remixes from Omid 16B, Derek Marin and Stark.

‘The Future’ in instrumental form as provided here by Mr.C is a slow-burning groover with gorgeous cowbells, a growling bottom end and some nicely slapped hats that help drive things along. It’s darkened house, alive with impish synths and is re-worked beautifully by the selected remixers who totally re-imagine it in their own unique way.

First up is Omid 16B, boss of the Alola label and someone who has released exciting and unpredictable music on labels like Tsuba, Bedrock and SexOnWax. His remix is more spangled and physical than the original, featuring plenty of ghoulish voices and hard hitting drums that work themselves and listeners into a deep, controlled and Detroit inspired frenzy. There’s also a dub version for the even more abstract dancefloors out there that is just as essential.

Next up, esteemed New York man and Get Physical associate Derek Marin (who has also performed and collaborated with some of the biggest artists in the electronic music world like Andrew Fletcher of Depeche Mode, Mr. C and Alexi Delano) has delivered a hugely ambitious remix that sways down low in house music’s mysterious and cosmic-tinged nether regions. As well as some carefully crafted percussive drama, there are some exquisite and wide screen synth patterns on show that help to

elevate this way above the norm. From dark to deep and back again, it’s a veritable sonic trip.

Finally, the ever on point Stark who turns in a broody and industrial tinged remix that gurgles with thick synth lines and spits out raw snare drums with plenty of attitude.

This is another stunning off-kilter EP from Superfreq that, true to the label’s name, will appeal to the freakiest of house fans out there.
