Release Notes

01. SuSoul - Cosmic Theater (Pete Herbert Remix) [Blue Dye | BD046]

"SuSoul" (Barcelona) takes us on a journey with mixed Electronica elements and involving fractions of sound patterns, which you probably will experience in a new way....So "SuSoul" created this Indie Experimental Tune and called it "Cosmic Theater" - Furthermore "Pete Herbert" has done his most appreciated remix work for us on this release and delivers an enlightening version of its own! There is sunshine guaranteed in the "Pete Herbert Remix"...feel free and listen to both.

02. Edu Imbernon feat. Rosina - Ditto (Rodriguez Jr. Remix) [Eklektisch | EKV015]

Edu Imbernon's Eklektisch label has considerably grown in stature recently, and one look at the sort of collaborators he's now picking up the phone to are very much indicative of the fact. On ''Ditto'', the young Spaniard calls on Rosina on the vocal front – a name you might recognise from Crosstown Rebels' frankly massive ''Fables and Fairytales'' from a few years back.

And to give the vocalist her dues, she turns in another stunning, sultry contribution here on a record that's brimming with sexy, summer-time vibes. The unfurling bassline proves a potent marriage too, while Imbernon's assured handling of the vocal (splicing it when possible and injecting it with numerous echoes) add to the overall atmosphere of the record. Excellent stuff.

First up on the previously alluded to remix duties is prolific deep house don, Olivier Mateu AKA Rodriguez Jr. The sometime Tenampa, Mobilee and Systematic man reminds us why he's been a force to be reckoned with for some time, as he delievers a far more ominous take on the original. Tough beats contradict the dream inducing melodies with distinction, and Rodriguez Jr's interpretation is the most striking of all that's on show here.

Finally, the no less respected Fairmont turns in a remix that's precisely in keeping with his unpredictable nature. This time, the emphasis shifts toward a more accesible, almost 80s influenced, synth-pop palette. Like much of Eklektisch's best releases, ''Ditto'' is a party-starting collection of tracks that's hard to find fault with. [Data Transmission Review]

[The Underground Review]

Edu Imbernon is forever on the rise it seems. Here he finds time to turn out a new track on his own well thought of label Elektisch. Called ‘Ditto’ it features the vocals of Rosina and comes complete with remixes from Canadian Fairmont and Rodriguez Junior.

The lead single itself has a nagging bassline weaving down below the creamy, smooth vocals of Rosina up top. The mood is one of aching forlornness and suggest Edu is becoming an ever more adept and mature producer. Gentle cymbal crashes, celestial pads and plenty of smooth textures all help fill in the spaces between the beats and just you watch the crowd as this one gets dropped this summer. Fairmont’s version is much more disco leaning instead of being underground pop like the original while Rodriguez Junior re-packages it as something more suited to darker late night hours thanks to the edgy drums and sharper percussion. Another fine EP that offers plenty for everyone.

[knobsmagazine Review]

At the heart of yet another busy summer touring, being resident at Space Ibiza and running the Eklektisch label, Edu Imbernon has also found time to turn out a new single, ‘Ditto’ featuring the vocal talents of Rosina and complete with remixes from Canadian Fairmont and Rodriguez Jnr.

The track is a deep and woozy bit of house with the heartfelt, neo-soul vocals of Rosina drifting up top as a paranoid bassline slowly snakes its way along down below. Big pads and pristine percussion help define the track that is a slow burning beauty and will really work the crowd into a loved-up frenzy.

The remix from Fairmont – a Canadian producer of many EPs and LPs that blur lines between electronic music and rock often on My Favorite Robot – is a more disco indebted fair with rough and raw drums, sharp edged melodies and plenty of arpeggiated lines. Finally, Rodriguez Jnr re-interprets the track as a darker, more shuffling affair with a tech house edge that is perfect for the later night hours.

03. The XX - Tides (Dixon Remix) [Innervisions | YT095]

A M A Z I N G remix of the XX from Innervisions lot. Our love for both is a well known fact, so this EP encapsulates a lot of things we dig here at Phonica. Essential to say the least. Bag yourself a copy. These are gonna go like hotcakes.

Digital versions available on Young Turks :

We teamed up with one our favourite labels, Innervisions for a joint 12" as Young Visions. You can also buy a limited 12" pressing. [Young Turks]

We asked one of our favourite labels, Berlin-based Innervisions, to have three of their artists remix tracks from 'Coexist'. The result is 'Youngvisions', a collaborative release between our label Young Turks and Innervisions. {The XX]

Berlin’s Innervisions get three artists on their roster to remix tracks from The xx’s incredible ‘Coexist’. Released on Young Turks, this is a collaborative effort from both labels, and sees Ame, Dixon and Marcus Worgull applying their individual touches to the muted cuts of The xx. Dixon opts for a Balearic club effort, Worgull’s is a dubby builder, and finally Ame goes for lo-fi atmospherics with the spotlight shone on the haunting steel drum. [Bleep.com]

Strictly Limited Edition. You better hurry on this one. Âme, Dixon and Marcus Worgull overhaul The xx for refined house 'floors. Each producer envisions the group's fragile soul in their own image, from the slow build and delayed gratification of Âme's take on 'Reunion' to Dixon's posh-trancing turn of 'Tides' to the steady groove of Marcus Worgull's 'Fiction' re-do. 04. André Sobota - Pulsatilla (Henry Saiz Remix) [microCastle | MCSL030]

MCSL030 - Andre Sobota - 'Pulsatilla EP' with Henry Saiz, Electric Rescue and 16 Bit Lolitas Remixes.

Andre Sobota returns to microCastle for the labels 30th overall release. The Brazilian producer has continued to impress since his hugely successful 'Surrounded By Time' EP from the summer of 2012. Andre's unique melodic sound has been enchanting electronic music fans over the first half of 2013 and he continues to be a firm favourite of Above and Beyond, Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha, Eric Prydz and Markus Schulz. We're thrilled to have Andre back on microCastle for his second EP entitled 'Pulsatilla' which includes 3 brand new original productions with remixes from: Henry Saiz, Electric Rescue and 16 Bit Lolitas.

The title track has a unique and refreshing summer vibe that might just be one of Andre's most ambitious productions to date. The warm, sun drenched harmonies play off the grungy low end perfectly for what results in a wonderfully warped sounding melodic creation. This is one production that will have nightclub goers transported to a place far more magical than a dark smoky room. The lone remix of 'Pulsatilla' comes from Henry Saiz who is making his debut on microCastle here. The highly touted Spanish producer has just come off what many feel is this year's best album. 'Reality Is For Those Who Are Not Strong Enough To Confront Their Dreams' was released in early June on Henry's own Natura Sonoris imprint and has electronic music fans from around the world singing his praises. Henry's uniquely organic and abundantly musical sound has melded itself extremely well to 'Pulsatilla'. The result is a production which sounds like the perfect summer anthem. Warm, analogue grooves lay down a funky foundation while catchy vocal hooks and poignant chord changes provide the necessary emotional content which makes for one of Henry's best remix works to date.

The second original 'Full Circle' is a light and airy construction. Andre's creative imagination never ceases to amaze and his dynamic beats and delicately interwoven melodies have never sounded better here. The main break is particularly captivating with its shimmering backdrop, grinding build and idyllic harmonies. The unique melodic themes suspend in your subconscious and lead to the reintroduction of the beats for a warm rush of emotion which closes the record out extremely strong. Electric Rescue makes his first appearance on microCastle and provides the lone remix of 'Full Circle'. The French producer just released his ground breaking 'Sonic Architecture' LP on Bedrock and his unique take on techno is routinely championed by Laurent Garnier and John Digweed. For his 'Full Circle' interpretation Electric Rescue has crafted a deep techno rework that comes with an immense dance floor presence. Big character laden beats along with rhythmic stabs and dynamic fills generate some huge momentum throughout. A spectacular remix from Electric Rescue which should be huge on the techno floors all summer.

Andre's third and final original on the release 'Lights' would be the most techno oriented piece on the collection. Backed by a driving groove, scattered drum elements and a wavering hypnotic energy which is totally infectious 'Lights' is the ultimate epic conclusion to the three compositions from Andre. The lone remix of 'Lights' comes from 16 Bit Lolitas who are returning to microCastle for their 11th overall appearance. The Dutch duo's 'Personal Space' (released in 2010) has been one of microCastle's best selling tracks and their recent Warung Brazil and Supermarket albums have been fan favourites over the last year. For their 'Lights' interpretation 16 Bit Lolitas have delivered one of their most musical creations to date. An intricate sounding groove sits at the foundation while warm bassy swells and blissful themes carry the track to the main break. The post rock style interlude goes down as one of 16 Bit Lolitas finest moments. A slow building wave of majestic sounding melody that crescendos with a divine, invigorating force that will leave you thoroughly elated.

"This is pure sunshine (and not in the visually-striking-but-ultimately-deeply-disappointing-Danny-Boyle-film sense). The main melody line from the original is transmuted into a catchy guitar-like riff that runs through most of the track, while gigantic chord changes, clipped, twisted vocal samples, and layers of strings sounds mesh together to deliver one of the year’s bright spots. Henry obviously set to make the most joyful, summery record he could, and he’s outdone himself with this effort." [Release Official Review]

05. Dave DK - Palmaille [Kompakt | KOM 277]

Berlin's best-known secret and a sucker for melodies, DAVE DK is certainly no stranger to the motions of the club crowd: having long been associated with Sasse's Moodmusic imprint, he is responsible for an impressive crop of much-acclaimed dance releases ranging from the tender to the ardent. Now, the seasoned producer presents the PALMAILLE EP on KOMPAKT, a delightful amalgam of swathing synths and heart-warming beats. Starting off with title track PALMAILLE, DAVE DK wastes no time and cuts directly to the action, in this case a welcomingly grooving exhibit flush with epic strings and dabs of mouth-watering melancholy. A perfect cut for moments of all intensities, it revolves around a delectably simple motive owing as much to the wonky sampledelics of early KOMPAKT techno ballads as it does to the more recent antics of deep house.

PALMAILLE is worthily followed by NAKAI POP AMBIENT VERSION, a finely tuned dash of beatless bliss that offers countless access points for merry immersion. Slowly gliding along on a wholesome bassline, jets of shiny sound paint a fragile, yet uplifting picture, not unlike falling stars in the nocturnal sky. A comprehensive piece of music, it also serves as a beautiful introduction to HOME AGAIN, the third and closing track of the PALMAILLE EP. For HOME AGAIN, DAVE DK secured the vocal help of HEIKO VOSS, co-founder of Cologne's legendary Firm Records and one half of KOMPAKT veterans Schaeben & Voss. The result is a timeless house gem brimming with warm pads and gracefully fashioned percussion, proving once again that electronic music is a matter of both precision and emotion - a tough juggling act for any club release. Which is why it's such a pleasure to see it as fully realised as here.

06. Edu Imbernon & Triumph - Veranoski (Henry Saiz Remix) [Bedrock Digital | Beddigi-35]

Bedrock warmly welcome Edu Imbernon & Triumph to the label with their outstanding Veranoski release. A track that has been a firm favourite of John Digweed for quite some time we are sure this will be a big track for fans of the label. Along with the original comes a fantastic remix from Henry Saiz who has had some big releases on the label himself. All in all quite a package and one we hope you enjoy.

“This is the only way that people will remember your music, trying to make them feel something special and making them dance.” [Edu Imbernon]

Having remixed Jozif’s “Twilight” for John Digweed’s “Live In London” opus and played at the Bedrock anniversary party where the live recording was made, Spain’s Edu Imbernon has already demonstrated a brilliant ear for pulsating house music. Now, he returns, having teamed up with fellow Spaniard Triumph, with “Veranoski” - another haunting masterclass in dancefloor dynamics.

Edu Imbernon is a great example of how a young artist can quickly make their mark on the electronic scene, his worldwide hit - “El Baile Alemán” (produced with his friend Coyu), was lauded as "Best Underground Track of the Year" by Beatport in 2009. Since then, he has continued his steady ascent up the ladder towards house music stardom, with quality remixes for the likes of The XX and Maya Jane Coles, amongst others. His productions have featured on notable labels like Get Physical, Noir Music, Trapez, Great Stuff, Diynamic, alongside his own Eklektisch label. He's also resident for Kehakuma at Space, Ibiza.

The superb remix of “Veranoski” comes from another of Spain’s finest – Henry Saiz – whose outings on Bedrock are always exceptional. Henry's critically acclaimed “Balance 019” album, released in 2011, was the catalyst for his star potential explode around the globe. His superb collaboration with Guy J (“Meridian”) and his solo track (“La Marea”) for the landmark Bedrock 100 release, were of the highest level of quality and his “Cryptozoologist EP” (BEDDIGI27) was one of 2012’s highlights. Here, his remix of “Veranoski” once again proves Henry Saiz is undoubtedly one of the most extraordinarily talented young producers around.

07. LEAVE - No Doubt (Lopazz Remix) [Emma Music | EMMA001]

We celebrate the first release of Emma Music and the debut of Emma's Face LEAVE. 'No Doubt' is a nu-disco influenced bomb that create a summerish atmosphere. Get Physical's LOPAZZ tells a modern interpretation of this wonderful track. Everything he needs: a rocking bassline, some vocal cuts and a down pitched hook. The other remix of Nag Sky reminds us of the classical french house time. Also a summerish tune especially for the next pool party.

08. Bxentric - Surrender (Kevin McKay & Phil Kelsey Dub Mix) [Glasgow Underground | GU2022]

Bxentric first came to our attention with "Foolishness" - a wigged out piece of hypno-funk that sounded like the Doobie Brothers had been teleported into the 21st century and given an lesson in acid house. It was released by Aeroplane as an exclusive on his "In Flight Entertainment" compilation for Eskimo in 2011.

For their debut release on Glasgow Underground Bxentric have delivered a perfect piece of late-night pop - a slow burning groove filled with Italo bass, swirling synths and the dreamy vocals of Emily Breeze. Remixes come from Kevin McKay, Phil Kelsey and Cosmic Kids. McKay & Kelsey take the original and trip it out on a blissed-out Moroder-ish workout complete with looping glocks and swooping Jupiter 8 stabs. NYC's Cosmic Kids offer a straight up disco jam chopping the vocals over Rick James style synths stabs and funk bass. McKay also adds an extended club mix of the original.

Support from: Michael Mayer, Axel Boman, Droog, Drums of Death, Sasha, Shadow Dancer, Mighty Mouse, Jozif, Thermal Bear, Slam,

09. Steve Bug - Lion On The Hunt [Get Physical Music | GPMCD069]

10. Gui Boratto - We Can Go [Kompakt | KOM 285]

A true KOMPAKT stalwart since his inaugural 2005 offering „Arquipélago“, GUI BORATTO shot to prominence thanks to his audacious live sets and an expansive release portfolio. With highly acclaimed club hits like „Beautiful Life“ or „No Turning Back“ to his name, the Brazilian producer captured audiences from all over the globe and continues to do so with his latest concoction TOO LATE, a wonderfully pop- infused 12“ hosting two magnetic floorbusters and an abundance of style.

GUI BORATTO's tracks are often considered the swiss army knives of club music, as they never fail to ignite a spark in the laziest of crowds, whatever its context or complexion. That might be due to the producer's keen sense of ear-popping melodies and hip-swinging beats, a ridiculously catchy combination that clearly transcends simple notions of genre. Title track TOO LONG is no different, starting off as a pleasantly relaxed exercise in house and ramping up the immersion levels with finely tuned female vocals that owe as much to classic pop stylings as they do to the textures of club music. In the meantime, the flipside runs rampant with WE CAN GO, a hearty banger sporting a fierce bassline and some pretty gripping beats ready for world domination. The distinctive male vocals may bring a message of peace, but it shouldn't be mistaken for surrender – this is an authoritative voice taking a stance, not the plushy whining of the spoiled and spineless. An exceedingly powerful slice of floor-sweeping glory, it's another testament to the well-honed skill set that GUI BORATTO brings to the table, and a hugely successful at that. Together, these tracks represent some of his finest work to date, giving club punters world-wide a perfectly valid reason to show up in full regalia.
