Donald Lee Slavin, 90, of Palmyra, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at his home. Donald was born October 27, 1925 in Downing, Missouri to Henry Earl and Ethel McWilliam Slavin. Donald was married to Mary Clifton Hollyman January 17, 1954 in Palmyra, Missouri. She survives of the home.

Survivors include: sons; Daniel L. Slavin; John T. “Jay” (Lorraine) Slavin of Palmyra; daughter Mary Jane (Bill) Hurley of Stewartville, MN, brother-in-law, William Johns of Palmyra, grandchildren; Laura (Travis) Batzel of Chatfield, MN, Nathan Gottman of Detroit Lakes, MN, Kristian Gottman of Minneapolis, MN, David Hurley of Stewartville, MN, Kalen Gottman of Eyota, MN, Danielle Slavin of Vandalia, MO, great-grandchildren; Tucker & Trinlee Batzel, MacKenzie Gottman, Leaha Nowak, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold T. Slavin, Chauncey E. Slavin and wife Maxine, Wayne Mac Slavin; sisters, Anna Marie Slavin, Mary Slavin Doss and husband Cecil; sisters-in-law, Maxine Slavin and Patricia Johns; grandson, Garet Wade Slavin; and great-granddaughter, Taylyn Renee Gottman.

Mr. Slavin was an Electrical Engineer for Northeast Missouri Electric Power Coop where he served for 39 years retiring in 1990.

He was a veteran serving with the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. Don was a member of the Palmyra Savings & Loan Board as well as the Boots Dickson American Legion Post 174.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Palmyra where he served as an usher for many years.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 7, 2015 at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. Rev. Robert Harrison and Mr. Butch Augspurg will officiate. Burial will follow, with military honors, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra. Visitation was from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Quincy Medical Group Dialysis Center, First Baptist Church of Palmyra or the donor’s choice.

Casket Bearers were Cliff “Tad” Johns, Paul Johns, Steve Small, John Slavin, Kalen Gottman, Nathan Gottman, and Bill Hurley. Honorary Bearers were William Johns, Laura Batzel, Kristian Gottman, and David Hurley.
