Our client is South Africa’s largest publisher working in Digital Media and Digital Services, newspapers, magazines, e-commerce, publishing and distribution. They are looking for a Commercial Manager/Sales Director to join their team.

Main Purpose of the Role

Overall commercial management of five health portfolios of magazine brands across all relevant platforms such as print, digital, and events. The Commercial Manager will report to Leisure Magazines’ General Manager.

Key Responsibilities

(The primary tasks, functions and deliverables of the role)

Take responsibility for advertising and sponsorship revenue performance of all brands in the Health portfolio including all brand extensions

Develop and drive web and mobile revenue opportunities of all brands on all relevant platforms, to meet budgeted digital revenue objectives, with aggressive growth targets

Develop advertising sales strategy per Rodale brand in conjunction with advertising sales team

Working with the General Manager, develop business plans and budgets for all brands

Develop a strong, supportive and positive relationship with each editor, working with them to develop and grow each brand commercially

Develop and drive 360 degree, cross platform ad revenue solutions to clients and agencies

Educate, inform and provide solutions to clients as they move from a traditional print media advertising strategy to a digital media (web, mobile and social) strategy

Working with the GM and Publishing Manager, formulate and implement strategies to drive cross-platform sponsorship revenue for individual brand events

Ensure alignment between the goals and strategies of the brands with key commercial objectives of the division/company

Research, analyze and act on external market trends and help drive direction of product development

Build strategic relationships with key clients and other external stakeholders through regular and ongoing communication

Work closely with central and publishing advertising sales teams to ensure that all advertising targets are achieved

Manage publishing advertising sales staff

Develop effective sales tools for all brands

Plan, select, develop and maintain suitable talent, including development of succession plans for all key positions, with specific focus on EE talent development

Print and digital magazine publishing processes

Magazine websites, including exclusive and supportive digital properties

Content marketing / native campaign development and execution

Print and digital media trends

South African and International health, fitness, sport, female and male interest magazine market

Development and management of brand extensions – printed and other (events, for e.g.)

Relevant software packages and applications
