In the time of gift registries and online shopping, it is supposed to be easy to purchase wedding gifts that the bride and groom will love. Get the invitation informing you where the couple is registered, go to the website, point and click. Easily done, the perfect gift.

And it is a great idea to have gift registries that all guests can access, especially when it comes to the distant relatives that have to be invited to weddings. Registries ensure that the happy couple will never receive a gift that they’ll shove into a box and leave in the basement.

However, it is a flawed plan. Gift registries make everything anonymous. There are no surprises for the bride and groom to open. Moreover, while it is ideal for a couple trying to make their new house into a home to be able to choose house furnishings for guests to buy them, surprises are always exciting.

So we come to the problem. How do you find a gift for the bride and groom that will be an exciting surprise, but will also be something they’ll love and use? What are these multifaceted gifts? Don’t just get something generic; get them something they’ll love.

Picture Frames

Plenty of pictures are taken at the wedding, and the happy couple is going to have a few favorites that they’ll want to commemorate on the walls of their new home.

When the couple is filling out their registry, they can forget to ask for decorative touches like frames in lieu of things like dishware and pots and pans.

There are also thousands of stores that sell simple frames and engrave them for free after you buy them. That is a perfect way to make a simple gift personal and meaningful. The couple will love it, and it will be a great way for them to commemorate the beginning of their lives together.

The First Argument Box

This gift is perfect for any couple, but it is especially great for the couple that regularly has their differences. It is also an easy way to be creative, and to save money on the wedding gift.

The first argument box is more of a kit, and the only things you’ll need for it are a bottle of wine, a box, and a piece of paper with the instructions on it.

Put the bottle of wine in the box, and write on the paper that the couple should write each other love notes and close them into the box with the wine. When they have their first argument as a married couple, they should get out the box, take each other’s love notes and a glass of wine, and go read the notes in separate rooms.

After they’ve read the notes, they’ll remember why they fell in love in the first place, and they’ll be able to talk calmly through their argument.

Gifts For Him or Her

When the couple is making their registry and preparing for their wedding, they do much thinking about each other and their relationship. Sometimes, they forget just to think about what they want individually.

To remedy that, buy the bride and groom separate gifts that they can enjoy on their own.

Get the bride a gift card to a spa or a good bottle of wine, and get the groom his favorite kind of liquor or a few free games of golf. They’ll appreciate the thoughtfulness when the wedding is over, and it is back to real life.

Grocery Store Gift Cards

This is a less exciting idea, but it is invaluable nonetheless. While the bride and groom are focused on things for the kitchen, they tend to overlook the food part, and how expensive it can be.

Get them a sizeable gift card to the local grocery store, and they’ll be thanking you when the honeymoon ends and it is time to go shopping.

Something Dorky

If the bride and groom are both into something that they might not be super proud of like vampire novels or action figures, give them something like that. They’ll appreciate that you took the time to think about things they would really like, and it’ll set your gift apart from all the others.

Tool Kit

This is another one of the essential things that you have to have in your house that many couples forget about when they are filling out the gift registry.

Moreover, when the couple is trying to put together their other wedding gifts, and they need a screwdriver, you’ll be the hero.
