It’s a given that the summer holidays with their prolonged periods of time with the children are at home getting increasingly bored by the day and taking it out on us adults will be a pretty stressful time.

As parents we do a lot for our children whether it’s being their maid and laundry service, taxi, personal chef, tutor -I’m generally pulling my hair out trying to get them to focus and do their work, being a parent in general which is pretty hard in itself and increases in difficulty the more mini people you have.  All this takes a toll on us resulting in high stress levels that manifest themselves in various states from mood fluctuations, high blood pressure, skin conditions, asthma, hair loss, heart problems and anxiety.  I have noticed that more and more people are presenting with hair loss a common result of severe stress.  Not all hair loss is stress related but with the stress levels rising in the UK thanks to work, fiances, children etc. it is a pretty big factor.

There are many causes of hair loss with stress being a big factor in the resulting condition and hair loss can present in different ways.  For example a friend of mine has been very stressed for a few years now with various personal issues and has found that she has lost hair in clumps.  Her hair loss has been so severe that she now covers her head with hats or scarves to avoid people making comments or staring.  This form of hair loss is known as Alopecia Areata.  The distress caused by this to sufferers is awful as many people are quick to judge others rather than stop and think about the possible cause.

The other form of hair loss is known as Telogen Effluvium which is where more hair than normal falls out.  This is commonly a result of mild anxiety and may not be quite as traumatic as Alopecia Areata depending on the severity.

Of course not all hair loss is caused by stress so as parents we can’t blame it all on the little terrors for driving us crazy on a daily basis.  Unfortunately we will all lose more hair as we age it’s whether we decided to fight back and reduce the hair loss or fix the problem that is the question.

For those of you that may be getting worried be aware that it is normal for us to lose about 50-100 strands of hair on a daily basis which sounds like a lot but is not actually that many when you look at how closely the hairs are packed together.

How to reduce hair loss:

Reducing stress levels goes without saying in the fight against hair loss.  Find the cause of the stress so if it is the children try and find ways to improve their behaviour.  I find bribery can get you very far although it depends on ages.  Confiscating toys they love during misbehaviour also helps to make little ones behave.  We use a reward scheme at home my girls gain stars for doing homework, tidying their room, behaving and being quiet and eating etc.

Going to a gym or training in your local park.  The exercise helps relieve daily stresses and by exercising you release happy hormones which of course relieve stress.  This can also help with weight loss, improve sleep and more which is great.

Avoid tight hairstyles as these pull at the hair and increase the amount of hair that falls out.

There are various natural treatments that can help stimulate hair growth but these can take a while and are not always as effective on some as they are on others.  Remember we are all unique and so a treatment that has amazing results for me for example may not work so well for you.

There are numerous supplements that can be used to assist with hair loss on the market.  Hair loss in some cases can be due to deficiencies in nutrients such as iron and zinc or vitamin B.

There are of course numerous other ways to help reduce hair loss but another option that can also be considered and is an option that someone close to me is looking into is a hair transplant at the Harley Street Hair Clinic.  The intention is to do it properly first time around so as not to need to repeat the process hence he is looking at one of the market leaders in this form of treatment.  He has noticed as he gets older his hair has male pattern badness and he wants to avoid the extreme wide parting look that an older relative has.  With society now we all want to look as young as possible for as long as possible so premature hair loss whatever the reason isn’t something many of us want to accept and live with and why should we!  Even celebrities such as Wayne Rooney are opting for such procedures thanks to being in the public eye and the constant scrutiny this brings with it.

Bobby who has appeared in various tv documentaries has also had a hair transplant.  The before and after pictures show the full extent of the improvements from FUE hair transplant treatment.

This sort of treatment is great for those with severe hair loss and in many cases the results are long lasting.  Personal consultations are arranged prior to treatment to assess patient compatibility with this form of treatment.  Regrowth is generally seen within 6 months of treatment and within 12 to 14 months the final result can be seen with the hair appearing as natural as possible.  Finance facilities are available should they be required and for those that would love this form of treatment but may be unsure you can meet previous patients so you can see how well the procedure worked for them.

Although I have written this post with one person specifically in mind I thought it was a good topic to include on the blog and I hope this post has been helpful to any of you out there suffering from this extremely distressing condition and that you get some solace in the fact that there are forms of treatment available to you to help reduce the appearance of baldness.
