NAPLES, Fla. (Feb. 10, 2014) – Residents of Mediterra and members of The Club at Mediterra are some of the fittest in the country: The club was recently named among the Top 10 of America’s Healthiest Clubs, an honor recognizing the community’s commitment to members’ overall health and wellness.
Prevo Health Solutions annually evaluates the health of the nation’s most elite private clubs following a comprehensive on-site visit. The company’s five-category rating system evaluates club fitness facilities and program offerings, as well as farm-to-table and healthy menu options available in all club dining operations, and the training and health of club staff.
“We applaud your vision and thank you for making a commitment to wellness in the workplace and for the members of your club,” said Rick Ladendorf, president and founder of Prevo, in announcing Mediterra’s inclusion in the Top 10. “Your effort is truly making a difference in the community and in the homes of your employees and those of your members.”
The Club at Mediterra was eligible for the top 10 ranking after Prevo’s September visit placed it in the top 10 percent of America’s clubs. The California firm specializes in workplace wellness, member usage, retention and recruitment for the club industry.
Prevo’s 70-page Health Report praised the club and its Sports Club for offering state-of-the-art equipment, the latest teaching techniques and fitness classes, wellness and virtual fitness programs, the MyZone heart monitoring system, and integrated body composition. It also cited the fitness center’s use by 65 percent of all members as “astounding.”
“Wellness is simply a way of life at Mediterra,” said Tom Wallace, CEO and general manager of The Club at Mediterra. “We integrate a diverse range of options into our club offerings that are part of the daily experience at Mediterra. The overall health and wellness of our members and our staff is a top priority.”
“This rating recognizes an important component of the lifestyle at Mediterra,” said Mark Wilson, CEO and president of London Bay Homes, which oversees the community’s sales and marketing. “No matter the time of day, there are always residents jogging, biking and walking around Mediterra’s main pathways. The community’s overall ambiance – the intimate neighborhoods, cobblestone streets, parks and open spaces – lends itself to an overall sense of well-being.”
Mediterra residents take advantage of the community’s eight miles of walking and jogging trails and facilities at The Sports Club, offering a fitness center, tennis and bocce courts, swimming pool and spa services. Mediterra’s sheer number and diversity of fitness classes are “exceptional in comparison to other clubs,” noted Prevo’s Health Report, which also commended the club for offering the newest teaching techniques, cutting-edge technology and comprehensive cross-training programs.
“The Club at Mediterra offers the most comprehensive and integrated player-specific golf and tennis conditioning programs we have seen,” it noted.
“Our conditioning programs have attracted top certified and trained staff and produced a collaboration between golf, tennis and fitness professionals who work together to integrate conditioning, strengthening and balance into sports-specific instruction,” said Tony Falangas, director of sports operations at Mediterra. “The Club also hosts wellness programs, offers on-call sports psychologists and physical therapists, and sponsors open house clinics.”
For members like Chris Negro, the introduction of new classes and programs keep her coming back to The Sports Club daily.
“I have a choice of classes that are incredible,” she said. “I can do Pilates one day, aerobics another, and I’ve done a wonderful dance class that was amazing. They keep adding programs.”
In addition to a full schedule of A-to-Z classes ranging from aerobics to Zumba, the fitness staff continually offers introductory sessions highlighting new trends, including Body Rolling, Pilates Barre and Nia, a mix of martial arts, dance and healing arts.
The Sports Club also hosts educational wellness programs, offers personal training and consultation, and provides extensive programs for all ages and abilities at its seven-court tennis complex.
Tennis for Everyone, for example, is designed for “newbies to used-to-bes to wannabes,” said Michael Baldwin, director of tennis. Advanced players compete in league and club championship tournaments.
Prevo Health Solutions also recognized the club’s food and beverage department for offering diverse menus and healthy options, including gluten-free and heart-healthy dishes.
It also dubbed Mediterra a “trendsetter” for introducing its popular bocce league and noted the club eclipses other clubs in terms of member engagement, wellness, member participation and programming.
“The Club at Mediterra offers a culture of wellness and a management team that rivals the best private clubs in the nation. We found each of the department heads to be forward-thinking, trend-setting, health-conscious leaders with an interest in making each year better than the previous year.”
Prevo Health Solutions’ Health Report establishes the benchmark for The Club at Mediterra to requalify for America’s Healthiest Club honors in 2014.
