Dr. Philip Payne, Professor and Chair of the Department of Biomedical Informatics, has been appointed as the Inaugural Director of the Data Analytics Collaborative, which is part of the Discovery Themes Initiative at The Ohio State University. The
DAC, under the auspices of the broader OSU

physical foundation for the recruitment of up to 100 new faculty across the
campus, whose expertise focus in the data analytics domain.  As the
Director of the DAC, I will be responsible for both overseeing the recruitment
of these new faculty members, as well as engaging the existing data analytics
community at OSU, in order to create a singular and preeminent presence in data
analytics at our university.  This undertaking, as part of the
Discovery Themes Initiative, has the potential to fundamentally
reshape scholarship and innovation at OSU.

Dr. Payne’s background, research and experience align well
with the potential and promise of the Data Analytics Collaborative.  He is
an internationally recognized leader in the field of clinical research
informatics and translational bioinformatics.  His research has focused on
the use and application of knowledge engineering and human-computer interaction
design principles.  And, his work has been published in more than 140
peer-reviewed journal and proceedings articles, books, book chapters and
technical reports.

In addition to serving as chair, he leads his department’s
Laboratory for Knowledge Based Applications and Systems
Engineering.   He also serves as the co-director of Ohio State’s
Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Bioinformatics Shared Resource.
