In keeping with the Marian Medical Center health care philosophy, the Registered Nurse manages quality patient care through the nursing process. Coordinates plan of care with the health care team. Assumes leadership role for unit personnel to prepare and assist them with their responsibilities. Employees are responsible for completion of unit competency assessments, annual safety review, CPR, and renewal of license by maintaining continuing education units as required by hospital policy. Employees must successfully pass clinical math exam prior to orientation to unit.

Work within a team model of patient-care delivery. Proficient basic nursing skills and specialty skills. Knowledge of the nursing process and the ability to apply these principles appropriately. Caring, compassionate attitude toward others. Relates with patients/visitors empathetically and tactfully. Organize and prioritize work efficiently. Clear, effective written and oral English skills, and objective active-listening skills. Delegate appropriate patient care tasks, duties, etc. to other team members. Willingness to actively participate in process improvement activities. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with others across all departments. Reacts calmly and efficiently in emergencies.

Collaborates and provides leadership with patient-care team. Maintains effective relationships with coworkers and medical staff. Applies the nursing process in the provision of care to the full compliment in gestational ages and pathophysiological and psychosocial complexities in the NICU environment. Demonstrated competence in the understanding and use of various technologies in the critical care environment. Competence in attending deliveries and internal transports. Demonstrates experience with advanced skill practice in the placement of Umbilical line, PICC lines and needle thoracentesis and intubation. In addition to these major responsibilities, the Registered Nurse may be assigned other duties.

RN Selection Criteria

Registered Nurse with a minimum of 4 years of experience at a Community or Regional Level Newborn ICU work experience. Other candidates to be considered on an individual basis and attributes. Registered nurse with 3 years of experience Greater than 5 years of experience preferred. Preferred: BSN, NICU certification and/or Masters degree. Minimum requirement: Associates degree and other specialty specific training, NICU certification. BLS, NRP National certification in NICU, Stable, transport certification. Current California Registered Nurse license. Current approved health care provider.
