Over 85% of the Irish population listens to radio on a daily basis, spending a massive four hours a day tuned in to the airwaves. But what exactly are we listening to?

Sure after the last set of JNLR figures came out we saw the usual suspects (Morning Ireland) take home the trophy of the country’s most listened to programme with close to 500,000 loyal listeners, as well a massive win for RTE 2fm’s comedy crowd ‘Breakfast Republic’, but what regional stations are we all tuning into?

It turns out that close to half the population is tuning into the likes of Limerick’s Live 95 FM, Cork Red FM and East Coast FM.

Whether it’s for music or just the chats, local radio is hard to beat in terms of engagement and musical selection. It’s great to throw on when you’re in the car, doing a school run or driving to work.

Those weather and traffic reports just aren’t going to listen to themselves you know! One of the main reasons regional radio succeeds is because it’s personal and unpretentious.

Where else are you going to hear about such a myriad of voices, debating everything from the Ploughing Championships to the national school fete?

1. The Breakfast Show with Mark & Catriona – Limerick’s Live 95FM

Mark and Catriona will definitely wake you up in the mornings with their breakfast show. Their fun games, exciting competitions, and impeccable music taste always make the school runs exciting and get everyone pumped for the day ahead!
