I had a little bit of a hard time getting this post up because I have been somewhat consumed by the news of the loss of the firefighters from my hometown of Prescott. One of our friends lost her husband in the fire. Before I get on to business as usual, I just wanted to take a minute to ask you to pray for Prescott–for those who have lost loved ones and for those who are still battling the fires in the Western U.S. I have gained such a new appreciation for the work these brave men and women do and owe them such a debt of gratitude. I also want to say thank you for the outpouring of love and support coming into the area from all over!

The near-120-degree heat and the fires have made me wish we were heading out this week–most anywhere but here. Although, it was only a month ago when I packed up the kids for my niece’s wedding in Utah, and I know well that long hours with kids in the car can be a real challenge.
A lot of you really loved the travel baskets I put together for our Disneyland trip earlier this year. Using my Silhouette, they were really easy to do. For more information about what I did to fill the baskets, go to this post.
Today, I want to show you how easy it was to add the vinyl designs to each basket.
I purchased the plastic baskets at the dollar store.
One of my favorite things about Silhouette is how it is set up to give us creative control over what we cut. I didn’t really want to go and purchase someone elses design for these, so I downloaded a free font (Waltograph) and with three circles and a few minutes, I had created my basic mouse ear shape.
After merging the circles together, I shrunk the whole design so that I could also cut it out for the autograph books I gave them.

And then I just made a new file and typed my children’s names into the program using the Waltograph font I had just downloaded. I did gold on black because that is what I had on hand, and it made them kind of fancy, but the names would also work well in white, yellow, or another light contrasting color. Adding a name to an inexpensive item like a basket, bin, or sand bucket, elevates it from dollar store score to something special, and it really just takes a minute! I bet there is something you would like to vinyl-ize at your place about now!
