Yep. I drank the kool-aid.
I signed up for Stitch Fix and you know what? I thought it was pretty awesome.
Usually I’m not a big fan of monthly subscription programs so I generally scanned and nodded when I saw Stitch Fix pop up in the past. The truth is I tend to be super picky (and frugal!) with clothes. My mom stopped buying clothes for me years ago because she gave up trying to figure out what I liked and I tend to limit my online shopping in the clothes department because I’ve been burned too many times. However, it took a couple of friends really raving about it to convince me to give it ago.
For those of you unfamiliar with Stitch Fix, it’s basically an online personal shopping service where you pay a small fee for a “Fix” or box of clothing/accessories picked out by your personal stylist. It’s not a monthly subscription service as I once believed. I mean, you can turn it into one if you really one to, but there’s also the option of scheduling the “fixes” to arrive whenever you want – you can get a fix once a month, every six months, or when ever you’re in the mood. This really appealed to me because I didn’t want to get locked into a program. I’d try it one and if I didn’t like it, not big deal.
You start by filling out a profile complete with style likes, dislikes, sizing, height, weight, preferences, needs, etc. etc. There’s also a place to connect your Pinterest board for style inspiration. The whole profile takes a good 20-30 minutes to complete. Once the profile is complete you have the option of adding or subtracting information at anytime.
The next step is scheduling your first fix. Each fix has a $20 styling fee, which can be applied to any item of your fix that you decide to purchase later on. The fix also includes 5 items, which can be a mix of tops, bottoms, dresses, and/or accessories. Once you schedule your fix, a stylist will review your profile and create a custom fix just for you. I scheduled my fix for the first week of January, but it arrived a little early on December 23rd.
When I got it, it was like opening an early Christmas present. I had no idea what was inside and couldn’t wait to see.
I had five items of clothing. Some I liked right away, some not so much.
Also included was a style guide with suggestions on how to style each piece of clothing.
And a personal note from my stylist.

I tried everything on and was surprised it all fit relatively well. The pants were a little long (okay, a lot long <– shorty in the house!), but other than that it was great. The ombre top even surprised me. It’s not a top I would generally pick out for myself, but I didn’t mind how it looked on. I didn’t love it enough to keep it, but it was good to get out of my clothing comfort zone.
I ended up keeping two pieces:
The maxi dress I wore in the Florida Keys (AND LOVED!!!)
And the maroon sleeveless blouse I wore on Christmas day.
The top was so soft, flowy, and super comfortable. I would like one in every color please.
Once you select which items you would like to keep, you “check out” via StichFix to complete your order. They’ll total up your items and subtract the original $20 you spent on the fix. Or if you decide you want everything you save an extra 20% on your final purchase. During the check-out process there’s also a survey where you can share what you liked or didn’t liked on the items. This will help your stylists when they select items in the future. I also went back to my original profile and added even more information on what I’m looking for and updated my Pinterest board with style inspiration.
And then I scheduled my next fix. Obviously.
I made a note about needing something really hot for my birthday in February. I’d like to start 29 off looking good!
There’s a pre-addressed and stamped envelope included in the Fix. I placed everything in the envelope and dropped it off at the post office. Easy peasy.
