As
the name suggests it, a sofa bed can be used as either a sofa or as a bed.
Which is pretty convenient when having friends to stay who would otherwise be
sleeping on the floor. With Christmas and New Year’s Eve fast approaching,
having an extra sleeping space is always welcome.
If
you need to sort out a few extra sleeping spaces for the upcoming festivities
you are on the right page as we would like to introduce some of the most
popular sofa bed designs and the good news is: there is one for any room
configuration.
If you are the lucky owner of a large living room,
then you might be interested to know that it is possible to invest in a sofa
bed that can offer three seats or more, which is roughly equivalent to a double
bed size when you turn it into a bed.
Another suitable solution for large areas
is to make use of a corner sofa bed. These sofa beds are always great at creating a friendly
and warm area in a room. So if you are keen to create an intimate space around
a coffee table, a fireplace or any other piece of furniture you would like to
work with, a corner sofa bed would be a good option.
Corner sofa beds can be designed in two different bed styles.
Either the sofa in itself can be separated into two distinct parts creating two
independent single beds as shown in the image above.
Alternatively the sofa bed can be
designed with a pullout mechanism just like in the example above. This type of
corner sofa bed usually has a sturdy metal pull out base with a folded mattress
hidden inside. Although the seating area can fit more than three people, the
bed will of course only be suitable for two people. The main plus side of
corner pullout sofa beds is that most of the time they feature an ottoman
storage area hidden in one or both of the ends.
Two-seater sofa beds are also an option
for smaller living rooms. They come either with a pullout mechanism or a clic
clac system. Clic clac sofa beds are really easy to turn into beds: you simply
need to pull the seating area forward and the backrest down. As they don’t come
with a folded mattress as pullout sofa beds do, you’ll have equal comfort while
you’re sitting or sleeping. The absence of a hidden mechanism however leaves
lots of room to store boxes underneath or even a folded guest bed for more sleeping
arrangements.
Lastly there is a type of sofa bed for the smallest space you
might have and these are called chair sofa beds, which are also generally futon
sofa beds. They commonly have a minimalist design and are also very handy as
they easily fit a corner. They might not be as comfortable as pullout or clic
clac sofa beds but are still a great option when trying to furnish a room with
limited space.
