Thousands of Concurrent Users Supported

New Orleans, LA – The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, the sixth largest convention center in the nation, has implemented a solution  that provides complete wireless coverage of public spaces, meeting rooms, the New Orleans Theater, The Great Hall and a pre-function area, that supports thousands of concurrently connected devices brought in by the convention center’s nearly one million annual attendees.

The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center consistently ranks among the country’s top ten facilities that hold the most conventions and tradeshows per year. Hosted events include the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference & Exhibition, Lexus National Dealer Meeting, American Dental Association (ADA) Annual Session, American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting, 2013 American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting and Exposition, and the 2014 NBA All-Star Jam Session.

The Convention Center tapped Xirrus®, the leading provider of high-performance wireless networks, to install the Wireless Array solution. With a Xirrus wireless network in place,  the Convention Center can provide high-density wireless network service to event organizers. Administrators cite low total cost of ownership and high return on investment since deployment of Xirrus.

The Convention Center also selected Xirrus Rapid Deployment Kits (RDK), which allows for a wireless network to be created in a matter of minutes. The combination of a Xirrus Wireless Array and the RDK provides a high-density, portable Wi-Fi connectivity solution, supporting voice, video, and data access across a large area to serve thousands of users simultaneously.

“This is an industry whose success hinges on technology, and today’s meeting planners and event organizers treat a robust wireless infrastructure and Internet backbone as a prerequisite,” said Paul O’Connell, director of technology services at New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

“We had a wireless network that was less than two years old, but the influx of mobile devices over the past couple years forced us to reconsider the scalability of our current Wi-Fi infrastructure. We realized that we needed high-density wireless. Xirrus provides a cost-effective infrastructure that meets today’s needs and will scale if we extend wireless connectivity to additional areas of the facility.”
