The Hindustan Group of Instituitons was founded in 1966 by our founder and Chairman, LateDr.K.C.G.Verghese. In the Sixties, our Chairman had realized the need for an institution that offers non-formal technical education. The establishment of Hindustan Engineering Training Centre (HETC) helped in the evolution of Hindustan Institution of Engineering Technology (HIET) which met this need. This educationist, industrialist and pioneer of the concept of non-formal technical education in Chennai (Madras) headed several other institutions. These institutions aim at imparting quality education in the fields of engineering, aviation, applied sciences and management.

Hindustan College of Engineering, started in the year 1985, was conferred the “University Status” by University Grants Commission (UGC), Government of India, Under Section 3 of UGC Act 1956 from the academic year 2008-09 and under the name HITS (Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science).
