Manila, Philippines – Whether applying inside the company’s premises or attending a job expo in malls or schools, a person looking for a job must put his best foot forward at all times.

Dr. Marcon Espino, director for Alumni Relations Placement Services (ARPS) at the Far Eastern University (FEU), gave this advice at the sidelines of the university’s two-day “Alumni Placement Expo (APEX)” which opened yesterday.  Manila Bulletin is the official media partner of the job fair.

“They (applicants) really have to prepare. They have to present themselves [well] whether if it is in a school setting or in any area where job fairs are being conducted,” Espino said.

“It’s not just going to the booth and submitting resumes—they have to realize that they are in the recruitment process. They have to take it seriously.”

At the same time, job seekers should also take advantage of the Internet as more companies check online records of potential employees.

As its media partner, Manila Bulletin has set up a booth in the two-day affair to help students create their online resumes at www.mbclassifiedjobs.com.

Applicants who have successfully made their accounts will have a greater chance of being hired by companies in a wide range of industries. MB is scheduled to hold a series of Classifieds Job fairs this year with the first leg on March 6 – 7, 2014 at Megatrade Hall, SM Megamall.

As the number of unemployed Filipinos hit 12.1 million, FEU hopes to prepare its graduating students land the best positions in the workforce, as well as assist the working students and alumni secure sound employment.

In his message during the opening ceremonies, FEU President Dr. Michael Alba said that they are looking at beefing up their online database for their alumni.

“One thing we are trying to do is set up LinkedIn website where we will encourage our graduates to update their credentials. We hope that the [company] HR heads will look into the database and try to source their recruitment needs through this website,” he said.
