In the observance of the Holy Week, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will conduct its own Pabasa and Visita Iglesia using the Pasig City ferry service that will remain operational even during the Lenten break.
“We will operate on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Black Saturday to give the public alternative transportation for their Visita Iglesia since many public utility vehicles not be available and train services will be closed during the Holy Week,” said MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino.
On Monday, Corazon Jimenez, general manager, said MMDA will lead several Catholic devotees in visiting four churches along the Pasig River through the ferry boats.
“Devotees will attend a Mass at 7 am then we will walk toward the Our Lady of Guadalupe in Makati City then back to the Pasig ferry Guadalupe terminal,” said Jimenez, adding that winners during the recently-concluded Barangay Power will also join them.
They can then ride the ferry boat going to Sta. Ana terminal where the Our Lady of the Abandoned Shrine is located.
The group’s next stop is at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish near the Polytechnic University of the Philippines terminal. The last stop is at the Sta. Cruz Church near the Escolta station.
“We will distribute rosaries, prayer books, bags with crackers and bottled water,” she said.
The MMDA will also conduct its own Pabasa at the MMDA headquarters in Makati City.
New ferry boats and more stations for the Pasig Ferry Service will be launched in May as ther MMDA has observed a steady increase in ridership over the last few months.
