MANILA, April 30 (PNA) — A total of 239,790 job vacancies here and abroad are available for jobseekers in the country during the job and livelihood fairs of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in celebration of the 113th Labor Day on Friday, May 1.

Of this number, 79,865 or 33.3 percent are local job vacancies, while 159,935 or 66.7 percent are jobs overseas.

A total of 1,398 employers from different regions are participating in this year’s Labor Day job fairs anchored on the theme, “Disenteng Trabaho at Kabuhayan, Alay Natin sa Bayan.”

For the DOLE-National Capital Region (NCR), the job fairs will be held at the Forum 1 and 2 of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with 104 local employers participating.

According to DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, the industries with the most number of vacancies are manufacturing, 12.9 percent; transport, storage, and communications (6.7 percent); other community, social, and personal service activities, 5.8 percent; and wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles, and personal household goods (4.6 percent).

The top 10 occupations for local employment are: (1) production machine operator, with 14,398 vacancies; (2) welder, 8,130 vacancies; (3) call center agent, 1,610 vacancies; (4) customer service representative, 1,602 vacancies; (5) sewer or tailor, 1,230 vacancies; (6) factory worker or production worker, 1,114 vacancies; (7) office staff or clerk, 1,019 vacancies; (8) merchandiser, 998 vacancies; (9) sales and marketing assistant, 778 vacancies; and painter, 650 vacancies.

For overseas employment, the following are the top 10 occupations: (1) construction worker with 11,575 vacancies; (2) office staff, 4,031 vacancies; (3) professional nurse, 3,024 vacancies; (4) domestic helper, 2,414 vacancies; (5) medical staff, 1,899 vacancies; (6) hotel and restaurant crew, 1,610 vacancies; (7) office administrator, 1,500 vacancies; (8) laborer, 1,357 vacancies; (9) welder, 1,000 vacancies; and (10) staff nurse, 964 vacancies.

For DOLE-Cordillera Administrative Region, the Labor Day jobs and livelihood fair will be held at the Baguio Convention Center, Baguio City, where 25 local and 10 overseas employers are going to participate.

DOLE-Region 1 will conduct its two job and livelihood fairs at the SM City Rosales, Pangasinan and at the Robinsons’ Place in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte. In this region, 16 government agencies, 64 local and 20 foreign employers will join the fair.

DOLE-Region 2 will hold its two job and livelihood fairs on SM City Cauayan and Robinsons’ Mall Santiago City, with 100 employers participating — 83 local and 17 foreign employers.

In DOLE-Region 3, the fairs will be held at the following venues: Puregold N.E. Baler, Suklayin, Aurora; SM City Baliuag, DRT Highway, Pagala, Baliuag, Bulacan; SM City Marilao, MacArthur Highway, Pagala, Marilao, Bulacan; Freedom Park, Burgos Street, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija; SM Mega Center The Mall, San Roque Melencio, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija; SM City Clark, Clarkfield, Pampanga; SM City Downtown, City of San Fernando, Pampanga; SM City Pampanga, City of San Fernando, Pampanga; SM City, Tarlac, Tarlac; Masinloc Gymnasium, Masinloc, Zambales; and SM City Olongapo, Olongapo City.

In Region 4-A, a total of 15 job and livelihood fairs will be held at the following venues: SM Rosario, Rosario, Cavite; SM Bacoor, Bacoor, Cavite; SM Molino, Molino, Cavite, SM Dasmariñas, Dasmariñas, Cavite; The District Mall, Imus, Cavite; Savemore Sta. Rosa, Sta. Rosa, Laguna; SM Calamba, Calamba, Laguna; SM San Pablo, San Pablo, Laguna; SM Lipa, Lipa City, Batangas; SM Batangas, Batangas; Batangas City Sports Coliseum; SM Lucena, Lucena, Quezon; SM City Masinag, Antipolo City, Rizal; SM City Taytay, Taytay, Rizal; and SM Center Angono, Angono, Rizal. There will be a total of 128 employers joining the job fair — all local.

In Region 4-B, two job and livelihood fairs will be held at the Pinamalayan Gymnasium, Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro, and Robinsons’ Place Palawan, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. A total of 14 employers will join the job fair, eight local and six overseas.

DOLE-Region 5 will conduct its job and livelihood fair at SM City Naga, where 36 employers — 33 local and three overseas — are expected to participate.

In Region 6, jobseekers may seek employment opportunities in the following venues: SM City Iloilo, Manduriao, Iloilo City; Amigo Plaza Mall, Iloilo City; and at the Main Atrium, North Wing, SM City Bacolod, Bacolod City, where 74 employers will participate — 54 local and 24 overseas.

In Region 7, six job and livelihood fairs will be held at the Cebu City Sports Complex, Cebu City; SM Cebu City; SM Consolacion; Cebu Provincial Capitol; Lapu-Lapu City, and Robinsons’ Place, Dumaguete City.

In Region 8, job and livelihood fairs will be held at the Tacloban City Convention Center and Ormoc City Hall, Ormoc City, where 34 employers — 24 local, two government, and eight overseas employers are participating.

In Region 9, job and livelihood fairs will be held at the Zamboanga Del Norte Gymnasium in Dapitan City; and at the Zamboanga Economic Freeport Authority in Talisayan, Zamboanga City. A total of 42 employers — four from the government, 16 local, and 22 overseas — have confirmed participation.

In Region 10, a job and livelihood fair will be held at the SM City Cagayan De Oro City, with 69 employers participating — seven from the government, 45 local, and 17 overseas.

In DOLE-Region 11, four job and livelihood fairs will be conducted at the Gaisano Mall of Davao City; Gaisano Mall of Tagum City; SM City Davao-Ecoland; and Darong Barangay Gym, Sta. Cruz, Davao Del Sur. A total of 114 employers have confirmed participation: one from government, 80 local, and 33 overseas.

In Region 12, a job and livelihood fair will be held at the General Santos City KCC Mall, with 50 employers participating — 30 local and 20 overseas.

In Caraga, a job and livelihood fair will be held at the Almont Inland Resort on J.C. Aquino Avenue, Butuan City, where 29 local and 10 overseas employers are going to participate.

Employment Assistance and Services

Aside from employment opportunities, the annual activities will provide the following assistance and services:

* Medical assistance. The Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC), Employees Compensation Commission (ECC), Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC), and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) will have doctors and nurses to provide medical assistance to job and livelihood fair participants, if this may be necessary. The OWWA has readies a stand-by ambulance for emergency purposes.

* Employment Facilitation. The Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) and the DOLE-NCR will deploy three units of enhanced PhilJobNet Job Search Kiosk onsite the job and livelihood fair at the Forum on the Philippine International Convention Center grounds so that jobseekers can access online job opportunities, labor market information, and knowledge and information on DOLE programs and services.

* Legal Assistance. The DOLE’s Legal Service, National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC), Bureau of Labor Relations (BLR), Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC), OWWA, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), and National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) will have lawyers and technical personnel onsite to render free legal assistance to jobseekers who might seek legal advice and consultation.

* Pre-employment documentation. The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) will assist professionals looking for jobs in their pre-employment documents or requirements. Some of the PRC services include registration for new licensure examinations passers, renewal of professional IDs, and other registration services.

* Skills demo and other services. The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will offer free skills demonstration and free haircut and massage services to the job and livelihood fair participants. Participants may also inquire and avail of the Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) offered by TESDA-NCR at the TESDA booth at the Forum.

Other government agencies and private companies and organizations will also offer assistance services which are:

* Pre-employment documents. The following government agencies will assist jobseekers in their pre-employment documents and requirements: National Bureau of Investigation (issuance of NBI clearance); National Statistics Office (certified copies of birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc.); Bureau of Internal Revenue (issuance of Tax Identification Number and registration as taxpayer); Social Security System (social security membership application); PhilHealth (PhilHealth medical insurance registration and IDs); Philippine Postal Corporation (issuance of postal IDs); Housing and Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG number registration and IDs).

* Safety and security assistance. The PNP-NCRPO and the Pasay City LGU Rescue Team, in coordination with DOLE-NCR and NCMB, will provide personnel and marshals to render security assistance in assuring the safety of the participants in the job and livelihood fair.

* Other services. The Philcopy will also provide free photocopying and free ID picture services to jobseekers.

The fairs are open to recent graduates, unemployed/displaced workers, returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), and beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Livelihood Fair

Apart from local and overseas job fair, the event will also feature livelihood services, especially for returning OFWs, who want to pursue an entrepreneurial path.

These services include livelihood counselling, skills demonstration for baristas, masseurs and hair cutters, among others.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-NCR will also be present to accommodate referrals for the Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP).

Prepare Employment Requirements

On the other hand, Baldoz reminded jobseekers regarding the important documents they should bring to the job fairs.

Among the documents required by employers at the job fair are resume or curriculum vitae; 2 x 2 ID pictures (bring extra copies for multiple job applications); certificate of employment, for those formerly employed; diploma and/or transcript of records; and authenticated birth certificate.

As a general procedure for job application on May 1, new jobseekers will be required to fill-up registration forms which are to be provided at the job fairs.

“Employers will interview, pre-select, and hire on-the-spot qualified workers, but if the applicant is not qualified, he may opt to look for other vacancies,” Baldoz said. (PNA)
