New shows, exciting concerts, and a change in the country’s leadership—whatever it is that’s in store for us this year, we are so ready!
2016 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS
It’s been a rollercoaster term for PNoy and now it’s time for him to pass the presidency to another potential leader. And even though the list of candidates is not final yet, the presidentiables are already doing their thing and making it look like an intense scene in a teleserye in the process. This is definitely one of the pivotal things to look forward to this year since it may or may not change the country’s fate in the next six years. Also, get ready for LSS-inducing campaign songs.
CONCERTS, CONCERTS, CONCERTS!
Ahhh, 2016! You have blessed the Philippines with great foreign bands and artists doing a show in the country. We have Passion Pit, Chvrches, Oh Wonder, Tenderfist, and more for the GoodVybes Fest, which will be happening in February. Come March, Wanderland 2016 will be happening and it includes Death Cab for Cutie, Bon Iver, and The Naked and Famous, among others in its lineup! We only have one problem though—saving up so we can have enough money to buy tickets. Heh. There’s word going around that Coldplay is coming to town and where best to hear it but on the radio, but until we get official confirmation from the Coldplay camp, let’s not skip lunch yet to save money for the concert.
NEW TELESERYES
Speaking of teleseryes (which is approximately 90 percent of the population’s guilty pleasure, to be honest. Don’t lie!), we have at least three more shows from ABS-CBN to watch out for this year! One stars Daniel Matsunaga and Erich Gonzales, another stars Kim Chiu and Xiam Lim, and last but not the least, another LizQuen teleserye, which was shot in Italy. Remember when they made us believe in forever? So get your #kilig mode on, you guys!
JADINE CONCERT
Nadine Lustre and James Reid are both singers we’ve all come to love because of their teleserye On The Wings of Love, more popularly known as OTWOL. Naturally, fans were ecstatic to know they’re going to be doing a concert in February. In fact, tickets were sold out after one day! The concert will be held on Feb. 20 at the Araneta Coliseum.
MORE KILIG FROM OTWOL
While we’re on the topic of OTWOL, they’ve just announced that the show is extended until February! The show has done so well in ratings, trending on social media every night. Fans don’t seem to get enough of it and so they got exactly what they wanted. Achieve! (OTWOL Official Website)
ALDUB PA MORE!
It’s not a secret that AlDub (Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza aka Yaya Dub) had been phenomenal last year with their groundbreaking events and record-breaking social media milestones. And it looks like they’re still going to continue on for years to come. Every episode of Eat Bulaga’s Kalyeserye has kept us on the edge of our seats so it’s almost too exciting to find out what else they’ve got for us. (Photo from Eat Bulaga Official Page)
GAME OF THRONES SEASON 6
Moving right along to western TV shows, we have Game of Thrones season 6 to look out for this year. Finally, all our answers will be answered… or will it? Is Jon Snow alive? Where’s Bran? What happened to Arya? We might as well be Jon Snow because we literally know nothing. If you’re not all caught up, you have four months to watch all five seasons until the new one airs in April. MOVIE SEQUELS AND SPINOFFS
Twenty sixteen might be the year of exciting and most awaited movie sequels. People lost their chill after watching a bunch of trailers in 2015, so it’s going to be no surprise that these movies are going to be a big hit this year. Some of the films to look forward to are Finding Dory, Captain America: Civil Wars, Batman v Superman, and Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.
GOLDEN GLOBES AND ACADEMY AWARDS
Speaking of movies, the 2016 Golden Globes will be happening this month. They’ve recently released their full list of nominees and last year’s best actor Eddie Redmayne is on that list for the same title. Jennifer Lawrence also landed a nomination for best actress for a musical or comedy along with Maggie Smith, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer, and Lily Tomlin. The Academy Awards, on the other hand, has yet to announce its list of nominees. It will be held in February. (Golden Globes Official Website)
MISS UNIVERSE 2016
Yes, yes, we should relax and savor the moment now that after 42 years, Miss Philippines earned the Miss Universe crown for the country once again, thanks to Pia Wurtzbach. But, let’s be honest, Filipinos get naturally excited about beauty contests and it makes us wonder if we’re going to get a back-to-back win next year (with hope not another awkward coronation). After all, we’ve waited so long for this moment that we might as well have it for another year, right? No?
