Easter Eggs are hidden gems that are added to software code which cause internet users to get a little surprise when they trigger them. They are designed to catch you off guard and make you smile. – providing you can uncover them.
Right now, Facebook is experimenting with a bunch of new Easter Eggs that will make all our News Feeds a bit more colourful going forward.
You may have already seen some examples when you’ve been using Facebook. For example, writing the word “congratulations” on someone’s status update causes a bunch of balloons to float up the page, while the actual word “congratulations” remains highlighted in orange. Clicking on it causes the balloon effect to happen again.
New additions to the list of Facebook Easter Eggs include: “rad”, “bff”, “lmao” and “thank you so much” – all of which will have their own colours and animation effects.
In addition to rolling out more Easter Eggs, Facebook is also updating the animations for certain life events, such as engagements and getting married.Once rolled out, the new changes will cause animated effects to occur whenever someone reacts to a life event.

The new Easter Eggs and animations are all part of Facebook’s continual efforts to boost engagement and keep users on the platform. The social network will be hoping that such additions will encourage people to share more original content and real-life status updates, rather than just memes and videos.
Such a reality is actually good news for businesses too, who can benefit by encouraging more engagement on their own posts and utilising the Easter Eggs where they see fit in conversations. At the end of the day, social media is all about portraying a brand voice and engaging with your customers – something these Easter Eggs certainly won’t hinder.
Try some out for yourself and find out which ones are already working.
