It looks like everybody in Los Angeles is going to need to find something new to talk about this weekend.  The world has been set back on its axis, as Anze Kopitar has finally scored his first goal of the season.

In fact, it seems the formula for success may be quite simple for the 26-year-old center, simply schedule something fun the day before or after a game. His last regular season goal came on March 25, just prior to when the Kings visited the White House. This time around, Kopitar visited the Ellen DeGeneres show on Wednesday, then 24 hours later he found the back of the net for the first time in more than 25 games.

Add in his two assists vs. the Coyotes on Thursday night and he continues to lead the team, now with a total of 11 points.

Following LA’s 7-4 win over Phoenix, here’s what Kopitar had to share…

On scoring his first goal of the season:

“I’ve said it before, I’ve been too close too many times. Hitting posts, hitting Brownie, hitting everybody around the net and not going in, so it’s definitely nice to get one.”

On being on the Ellen DeGeneres show:

“I do believe in karma, so I guess if you do something good for something, it pays off. It did tonight, for sure. I think hitting te plates was a little bit easier than shooting on a world class goaltender.”

On what Darryl Sutter said when the Coyotes tied the game:

“It wasn’t said a whole lot. It was one of those time outs, where it’s what you have to do, really. Darryl just said a few times we have to get back to our game plan and it turned out okay tonight, but we can’t let it happen again.”

On it being uncharacteristic for the Kings to lose the lead, as they did against the Ottawa Senators and tonight:

“Yeah, usually we’re pretty good when we have a couple goals to lock games down. Sometimes it happens, but both times we managed to squeee out two points so that’s the most important thing.”
