Describe what your dog would do on a typical day*

Dogs are often seen as disposable items, ending up homeless when humans tire of them. In the UK, one unwanted dog is destroyed every hour. Adopting a dog is a commitment that could potentially last the next 15 years of your life. Are you prepared for this?

Listed below are the most common reasons people give up their dogs. Please read through each reason and give your views on each statement.

I would not consider moving home unless I was assured my dog could move in with me. If moving to rented accommodation I would first request written confirmation that pets are allowed on the property.*

If I was to find myself homeless or needing to move into temporary accommodation I have family and/or friends who would be able to accommodate the dog.*

If you’re not in a position to adopt but would still like to help Fidget, please consider making a donation so we can continue to rescue animals like this from a life of cruelty and neglect.

Hello, my name is Fidget,

I’m a sixteen month old male Lurcher. I arrived at The Mayhew because my owner worked full-time and I wasn’t happy being left home alone.

I’m a very active, bouncy and playful boy. I’m also very friendly and I get along well with everyone I meet. I also get along very well with other dogs and I enjoy running around and playing with them in the park, I can sometimes be a little over the top for smaller dogs. I’m toilet-trained and I’ve learnt the usual commands and a few tricks too but I’m still learning manners like how not to jump up when saying ‘hello’ and to walk nicely on my lead without pulling. I’m a very affectionate dog and I love nothing more than cuddling up next to someone on the sofa for love and attention. I’m not keen on being left home alone and I have been known to bark when left on my own so I’m looking for a home where there is somebody around for most of the day.

I’m now looking for a forever home with a person or family who have owned dogs before and have researched my breed type. I can live with sensible children from ten years of age and upwards providing they are used to being around dogs. I’d happily share my new home with another dog providing we’re the right match and I can also live with dog-confident cats who won’t allow themselves to be chased. I wouldn’t be suitable to live in a flat. My new owners will be expected to take me to take me to continue my training, take me to training classes and provide me with a minimum of one hour of active off-lead exercise every day. If you’re interested in adopting me you will need to be fully prepared for the hard work and long-term commitment involved in caring for a dog, you’ll be taking on a fourteen year commitment which must not be taken lightly.

I hope to see you soon,

Fidget x

Weight: 17kgs

Fidget is currently living in foster care until his new forever home is found. If you are interested in adopting him you will need to visit The Mayhew first before going to see him in his foster home.
