I understand that the cat will be rehomed as a companion. The Mayhew Animal Home will at all times retain ownership of the cat, and reserves the right to reclaim if it feels the cat is not being fed, housed or cared for to its satisfaction. Should the cat ever leave my care it must be returned to the Mayhew Animal Home.*

I understand that all cats from rescue facilities face unique challenges that cats from other sources are not necessarily exposed to. One challenge is the likelihood of exposure to a virus called Feline Coronavirus, or FCoV. Whilst in most cases this does not appear to affect the cat, in some cases (5 – 10%) this virus can develop into a disease called FIP or Feline Infectious Peritonitis. Unfortunately, whilst treatment for FIP is available, in the majority of cases it is unsuccessful. By minimising stress on my newly adopted cat, the chances of FIP developing can be lessened. The Mayhew Animal Home prides itself on its quality of care to all of its animals and the transparency through which they operate and makes no attempt to conceal the possibility of this situation. Feline Coronavirus infection is not unique to The Mayhew Animal Home, and is a situation that all cat rescue centres must contend with. In order to make a lasting difference to the problem of unwanted cats, the realities of this situation must be accepted.*

Cats are often seen as disposable items, ending up homeless when humans tire of them. Adopting a cat is a commitment that could potentially last the next 15 years of your life. Are you prepared for this?
Listed below are the most common reasons people give up their cats. Please read through each reason and give your views on each statement.
I would not consider moving home unless I was assured my cat could move in with me. If moving to rented accommodation I would first request written confirmation that pets are allowed on the property.*

If I was to find myself homeless or needing to move into temporary accommodation I have family and/or friends who would be able to accommodate the cat.*

What’s my personality?
I’m a sweet little thing who enjoys lots of attention and fuss. I spent some time in a foster home with my siblings so I’m really well socialised and friendly. I enjoy hanging out with my siblings but I can also go to a new home on my own, so long as someone is around a lot to give me fuss and cuddles…and supervision! I’d love a family to call my own and I can live with respectful children.
Why am I at The Mayhew?
I arrived at The Mayhew with my siblings and my mum Princess after our owner could no longer cope with us.
More about our cats:
All of our cats have been assessed by our vastly experienced staff. The re-homing criteria obtained is ever changing and so from time to time there may be some adaptations to the information provided. One thing that doesn’t change is The Mayhew’s commitment to finding the very best homes for all our cats.
As a kitten it is important they get lots of love and affection. For all our kittens we want people to be around a little bit more often so they can interact with people or other cats if this is the case. We want our kittens to be loved and taken care of. The more time and effort you put in the happier your kitten will be.
It is also important that kittens get lots of opportunities to explore their surroundings and have lots of fun things to play with. Without this they will just get fed up and bored so plenty of toys are a must.
The Mayhew want the very best environment for all our cats and kittens and so are keen to champion the benefits of a garden for any cat both young and old.
What we want is to give all cats the option of exploring the outdoors or staying in with you. Please let them decide what lifestyle they want to lead as it should result in your cat being happy, contented and stress free. Access to outside can come in many forms so it’s best to speak to our dedicated staff at The Mayhew if you have any questions.
When it comes to children we have a good sense of what sort of home life a cat wants. The best indicator of how a cat will react with a child of any age is for everybody to meet one another. What we don’t want is a cat to get a stress related illness due to them not settling in and so becoming unhappy or sick in their new home.
Our cats are litter trained and are chomping at the bit to move in with you. Think of them as your new best friends and all you have to do is provide them with love, affection and of course food and water.
You’ll need to keep up to date with their vaccinations and flea and worm treatments and because you will have kept your cat in tip top shape they can share a lifetime with you.
If you think you can offer us a loving, fully-committed, lifetime home or would like to know more about us, please complete the Cat Adoption Questionnaire below or visit during viewing times.
