I am pleased to announce that the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC) has invited me to present a 40-minute session demonstrating our newly launched Orton-Gillingham Multisensory Reading Practicum I – ONLINE program at the annual Council Meeting on Tuesday, October 25th in Orlando, prior to the opening of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) Conference.

The full Council invited Mayerson Academy to deliver this presentation because of our exemplary online program. While IMSLEC currently does not have a procedure for accrediting online courses, a subcommittee has recommended that standards for accreditation of online courses be developed, and we are pleased to be selected as a possible model for these standards.

Mayerson Academy’s Orton-Gillingham Multisensory Reading Practicum I – ONLINE program is the only entirely online, stand-alone, multisensory-structured language course accredited by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA). The content and practicum requirements are identical to Mayerson Academy’s face-to-face program, which is also accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council, and was deemed “exemplary professional development” in the Ohio Department of Education’s Dyslexia Pilot.

Mayerson’s successful face-to-face Orton-Gillingham program and our track record of developing other effective online courses provided a platform for designing an online Orton-Gillingham Multisensory Reading Practicum that would meet IMLSEC’s high standards. Participants in the first cohort that began in August have been enthusiastic about the quality of instruction, and instructors are reporting that their online students are learning OG methodology at a level matching the achievement of their face-to-face course participants. We are thrilled to be able to offer this important training to teachers across the United States (and internationally), in areas where Orton-Gillingham training is currently unavailable.
