The asphalt and paving websites listed below are the best designed because of their unique qualities and interesting visual elements. Each of these websites have a characteristic that makes them stand out individually.

The Maryland Asphalt Association, Inc.

Maryland Asphalt Association, Inc. is an association dedicated to the leadership, development and advancement of Hot Mix Asphalt. They’re committed to ensuring that Hot Mix Asphalt paving is the most cost-effective, high quality paving available. Both Maryland Asphalt Association, Inc. and MayeCreate focus on high quality products, which make for a great partnership between the companies!

Some of the features that make this site stand out:

The animated navigation is the first design element that may grab the viewer’s attention on the Maryland Asphalt Association, Inc. website. The navigation has animated pictures behind each of the three sub menus, which when you hover over them, grow in size as if they were coming towards you. This is not only visually appealing but extremely eye catching.

There appears to be yellow lines on the main navigation bar on top of the Maryland Asphalt Association, Inc. website. This is meant to look like a road, but it may be too small for certain viewers to comprehend. The Blacktop Service Company creates a design much like this one, except larger.

Wish List:

The extra white space at the bottom of the homepage is the only fault to the design of this website. The right aligned sidebar is full of text, but the main content area is left empty.

Fix Asphalt

Fix Asphalt provides professional asphalt, concrete services and pavement management programs to commercial and industrial property managers in the northeast. They do things a little differently as a niche business. Their business model is specifically tailored to focus exclusively on customer service and building long term relationships.

Some of the features that make this site stand out:

The initial video feature on the Fix Asphalt homepage sticks out the most. As soon as you enter the website, the video begins to play and continues to do so while you are still there. However, it starts over if you click on a different page within the website or when you exit altogether. This is a great marketing technique in today’s society because videos are a trending feature right now.

The consistent bold color of yellow is another visual element that stands out. As you scroll down the homepage or click through the pages of the website, yellow is there, whether that be via the font, picture, or graphic bar.

Wish List:

The one thing missing from the Fix Asphalt website is a portfolio page. There are no pictures of finished products or the names of businesses from said finished projects. Portfolios are important because it can be a decision factor for potential customers who visit their website.

Blacktop Service Company

Blacktop Service Company is a specialized asphalt construction company based in Humboldt, Iowa. Founded on family values, the company is synonymous with trust and dependability. Operationally, they strive to produce the highest quality products, seek to exceed customer expectations and are dedicated to providing a quality work environment for their employees. MayeCreate has the same values, so we were very excited to work with them.

Some of the features that make this site stand out:

The navigation on the Blacktop Service Company website is pretty cool yet similar to the Maryland Asphalt Association, Inc website. The yellow bars resemble closely to the yellow lines on a road, which was probably the idea. However, the Blacktop Service Company made them much larger, which allows easier understanding of the concept. This unique characteristic really makes the company stand out from the crowd of similar designs.

Another interesting element are the small pictures associated with every service the company offers. This detail adds clarity for the viewers, which may ease exploration of the website.

Wish List:

The font size on all of the pages of the website is my only complaint. It is a tad bit too large to view the entire page without having to scroll a lot to see the bottom.

M&J Asphalt Paving Company, Inc.

M&J Asphalt Paving Company, Inc. has more than 35 years of experience delivering high-quality asphalt paving work that doesn’t bust budgets. A family-owned, self-performing company, M&J  Asphalt and Paving Company, Inc. specializes in the work that has to be done right the first time – the shopping centers, office parks, hospitals, restaurants and manufacturing facilities that demand reliability from their vendors.

Some of the features that make this site stand out:

M&J Asphalt and Paving Company, Inc. also has videos displayed as the first thing visitors see when they visit the website. However, M&J Asphalt and Paving Company, Inc. show three videos from different projects, unlike the one video from Fix Asphalt. This can be very attractive for potential customers who visit their website because it provides examples of finished projects.

Furthermore, M&J Asphalt and Paving Company, Inc. has a different background picture for every section of the homepage. The photographs are tinted and faded, which add a nice design touch.

Wish List:

The only fault that I have with the  M&J Asphalt and Paving Company, Inc. website is the fading in of the different sections. As you scroll down on any of the pages within the website, the next section is vacant and slowly fades in. This can be distracting.

Missouri Asphalt Pavement Association

Missouri Asphalt Pavement Association is proud to represent the asphalt industry in Missouri. Founded in 1990, the company has grown to serve asphalt producers and non-producers, oil suppliers, contractors, and parties with a commitment to the quality production of asphalt. It was our pleasure to help them create a strong website that would serve as a network for asphalt contractors, with nearly 80 members.

Some of the features that make this site stand out:

We were able to do something a little out of the norm for the Missouri Asphalt Pavement Association website by going for an overall darker color scheme. The deep purples in the site offset the bright accents used for the titles and buttons throughout. This balance almost resembles a road sign at night, only we make it look awesome and not blinding.

The purple curve running along the header and footer of the Missouri Asphalt Pavement Association website makes it very different from other websites. It is not a design element you see very often, mainly because it is extremely difficult to pull of correctly.

Wish List:

The one thing I would change is the font on top of the pictures on the homepage of the website. Some of the text is difficult to read with the background of the picture.
