The Ernie Ball company introduced its Slinky series of guitar and bass strings in 1962 and these strings have been popular among all kinds of players ever since. Great musicians like Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, Slash and Paul McCartney have all played Ernie Ball strings. At this year’s Winter NAMM, the family-run company introduced a brand new line of strings: the Paradigm series. These new strings will come in the most popular gauges for electric and acoustic guitar and they were developed to be almost indestructible and very long lasting, while delivering the familiar Slinky tone that everyone loves. The acoustic strings are available in both 80/20 Bronze and Phosphor Bronze versions. Paradigm strings are resistant to rust and grime build-up and if they break or rust within the first 90 days of purchase, Ernie Ball will replace them for free. This shows how confident EB is about their new range of guitar strings.
Beta test
Before their official release, the new Paradigm strings were beta tested by a number of guitarists from different music styles. Kenny Wayne Shepherd and John Petrucci (of Dream Theater) were among them and they couldn’t break the strings, proving them super strong indeed. Shepherd says: “These are definitely the best-sounding and most durable strings I have ever played” and John Petrucci adds: “These new Paradigm strings somehow withstood the most severe and cruel punishment I could muster up without actually breaking the guitar itself! They are crazy strong!!”
Advanced technology
Each string from the new Paradigm line was plasma-enhanced and treated with EB’s patented Everlast nano treatment to repel grime and sweat, so that the string keeps sounding clear and crisp, like new. To create the new Paradigm strings, Ernie Ball used their patented RPS (Reinforced Plain String) technology combined with their top-notch wire drawing process to increase the tensile strength of the string by 37 percent. The Paradigm strings have 70 percent more fatigue strength than traditional coated strings, but they have the same sustain and comfortable feel as traditional strings.
