Season 8 of the American supernatural drama TV series “The Vampire Diaries” is definitely going to be the last for the show.
Thus, it becomes imperative for actress Nina Dobrev to come back to the show and give her character Elena Gilbert a fitting closure, the way the character deserves.
Elena Gilbert is an important character in “The Vampire Diaries,” having been the female protagonist during the first six seasons of the show. When Dobrev decided to move on from the show after the close of Season 6, the executive producers of the show decided to put her character in long slumber, only to be awakened by the death of Bonnie Bennett, played by Kat Graham.
Incidentally Bonnie is now the new love of Ian Somerhalder’s Damon Salvatore, the former on-screen and real-life love of Nina Dobrev in the TV series, so having Dobrev come back as Elena Gilbert means the automatic demise of Bonnie.
It seems that the showrunners think that Bonnie is too important a character to lose during the final season of “The Vampire Diaries” that reports have been strongly going around that Nina Dobrev shall come back to the show as her character’s evil doppelganger, Katherine Pierce.
However, all these remain as speculations pending the confirmation from executive producer Julie Plec and the other showrunners. But as far as Julie is concerned, she really wants Nina to be back in the eighth and final season of “The Vampire Diaries,” notes Game & Guide.
Even Mike Pedowitz, President of The CW, is batting for the return of Nina Dobrev even for a cameo appearance on “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8, which shall be premiering on the network on October 21.
Returning to its roots
Just like most of the TV series on The CW this coming fall, “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 shall be returning to its roots as Damon, Enzo St. John, played by Michael Malarkey, and Bonnie will be seen reeling from the work of Sybil, played by Nathalie Kelley.
It was again Julie Plec who said that the show will go back to its origins, which means that Damon might return to his dark self and would make the character more like a villain than a hero, but under the manipulation of Sybil, notes the Parent Herald.
Reports have it that Damon Salvatore shall become his own worst enemy in “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 and that the involvement of Sybil will force out an inescapable self-examination, and the only way he could fight it is by making peace with himself.
Sybil will reportedly be continuing to use Damon and Enzo as her hitmen and performing summary executions in the upcoming Season 8 of “The Vampire Diaries.”
More returning characters
In addition to Nina Dobrev, other possible returnees to the TV series are Sarah Salvatore, played by Tristin Mays, as well as Klaus, played by Joseph Morgan, from “The Originals” spinoff TV series.
There are also reports saying that Stefan Salvatore, played by Paul Wesley, and Caroline, played by Candice Accola King, shall also be tying the knot in the eighth and final season of “The Vampire Diaries” but Caroline will be thrown off with the return of Klaus in Mystic Falls.
Also expected to return is Grams, played by Jasmine Guy, when “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 premieres on The CW.
Julie Plec has also hinted during the recent San Diego ComicCon that the eighth and final season of “The Vampire Diaries” would feature a big death.
According to reports, the major death on the show might occur in the middle of the season or at the end part to make the show’s exit more dramatic.
Actress Kat Graham previously hinted that there will be a big death in the show’s Season 8 but it will not happen right away.
