While many fans expected that the winter premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 13 will finally address the decision made by Justin Chambers’ Alex Karev, it didn’t.

Instead, it showed fans another episode that somehow produces more complications for Alex and if he did, in fact, take the plea.

ABC’s long-running medical drama has been using deviation episodes this season to give fans an interesting break and twist to the usual drama.

The episode takes place the day before Alex’s trial, with doctors Bailey, Arizona, and Jo driving to a maximum security women’s prison to treat a violent pregnant teenage inmate.

Jo bonds with the inmate, who says that after her baby is born, her mother will take care of her baby for her. However, it is later revealed that the mother plans to adopt the baby and never introduce it to her daughter.

When the inmate goes into labor, she demands to see her mother and Jo was left with no choice but to reveal everything to her. The inmate goes hysterical but successfully delivers her baby.

Bailey also learns the realities of patient care in the prison environment and offers the head doctor of the prison that if she’s ever interested for a job, Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital can take her in.

On their way back home, Bailey tells Jo and Arizona that Alex plans to take the plea and will be going to jail, which then makes her throw up.

Loyal fans of the show deduced that the episode was a sign that Jo is indeed pregnant with Alex’s baby just like the rumors have been circling. While many have debunked the issue that Jo will be pregnant in the show because the actress who plays the character, Camilla Ludington, is also expecting, fans are still not omitting that possibility.

The upcoming episode, titled “Jukebox Hero,” will finally reveal whether Karev pushed through with his decision to take the plea or whether he changed his mind upon hearing Meredith’s message.

Fans will remember that Alex decided to suddenly just take the plea deal and serve two years in prison after Jo revealed her past and about her abusive husband.

Alex fears that when they call Jo to testify in the court, all will be revealed and thus, she could lose her medical license. His decision, however, did not obviously sit well with Meredith.

A promo for the much-awaited episode shows Arizona and the rest of the doctors waiting for a word on him. It also teases that Alex might have indeed taken the plea deal as Meredith is declaring his best friend is behind bars.

However, this could be just part of a dream sequence according to some fans. Speaking to Variety, Jessica Capshaw, who plays Arizona, tells fans to brace themselves for what’s about to come in the episode.

The actress promised that fans will finally learn of Alex’s decision. As for other things that will happen in the episode, Capshaw says that the surgeons of Grey Sloan Memorial will make it hard for Marika Dominczyk’s Dr. Eliza Minnick.

It will be recalled that Minnick was hired to transform the hospital’s learning program. However, this ultimately led to threatening the position of Dr. Webber. The rest of the surgeons have all agreed to keep Webber in position.

Capshaw says that she and Eliza will clash on the latter’s first day at work. The new member of the hospital will not give her a warm welcome. Dr. Webber himself will give Minnick a hard time, according to the episode’s synopsis.

The upcoming episode will also shed some light on the growing issue between Amelia and her husband Owen. Amelia left Owen after she broke the news that she didn’t want to have kids.
