It looks like the HBO hit series “Game of Thrones” is intent on living up to the recent statements of Maisie Williams that its upcoming Season 7 would be a great run for the show.

Latest reports have it that the production of “Game of Thrones” Season 7 has just taken in Oscar-winning actor Jim Broadbent for a still undisclosed role. Given his stature as a multi-awarded British actor, it is likely that he shall be given an important role in the highly-followed and anticipated TV series.

Fans are just disappointed to know that Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” shall only have seven episodes and that Season 8, which reportedly shall have only six episodes, shall be the final season for the hit TV series.

Jim Broadbent is best remembered for films including “Time Bandits,” “The Iron Lady,” “Brooklyn,” “Brazil,” “Bridget Jones’ Diary,” his Emmy-nominated title role on the series “Longford,” his recurring role in the “Harry Potter” film franchise where he played Horace Slughorn, to his Oscar-winning role as best supporting actor in the 2002 film titled “Iris,” details Entertainment Weekly.

A significant role

HBO has not revealed the details of the role of Jim Broadbent on “Game of Thrones” Season 7 except saying that it will be significant.

Back in Season 6, the show also cast veteran actor Ian McShane in a brief but pivotal role because it proved to be vital in reintroducing the fan-favorite character, Sandor Clegane, also known as The Hound, notes CBC News of Canada.

It is likely that The Hound will be in Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” as he has already joined the House without banners, with some fans and critics looking forward into the possibility of him squaring up against his already reinforced brother, Gregor Clegane, also known as The Mountain, in one of the future episodes.

It is possible that Jim Broadbent would have a similar role as Ian McShane had in Season 6 and he is certainly a plus for “Game of Thrones” Season 7.

Jim Broadbent is the latest “Harry Potter” actor who jumped from wizard world to Westeros and the list already includes Natalie Tena, who played Tonks in “Harry Potter” and Osha in “Game of Thrones;” David Bradley, who played Mr. Filch in “Harry Potter” and Walder Frey in “GoT;” and Hinds, who played Albus Dumbledore’s brother Aberforth in “Harry Potter” and Mance Rayder in “Game of Thrones.”

23 nominations in the Emmy Awards

Incidentally, “Game of Thrones” Season 6 has been nominated in 23 categories in the upcoming Emmy Awards slated this month, including first-time nods to Kit Harrington, who plays Jon Snow, and Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark.

The two young performers were obviously nominated for their sterling performances during Season 6 and it would not be surprising if one of them or both come out winners in their respective categories.

Incidentally, during the Season 6 finale of “Game of Thrones,” Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke, and her army has set sail for King’s Landing in an attempt to retake the Iron Throne from Cersei Lannister, played by Lena Headey.

Cersei Lannister took over the Iron Throne from her son Tommen Baratheon because he pledged support to the High Septon and the Sparrows, whom the erstwhile Queen Regent all burned as well as the Tyrells including Queen Margaery, Sir Loras, and their father.

It can be recalled that during the Season 6 final episode, Lord Varys, played by Conleth Hill, has worked out an alliance with the Tyrells and Daenerys through Lady Olenna, played by veteran actress Diana Rigg, the grand matriarch of the Tyrells. Lady Olenna has revenge written all over her against Cersei so she and her army have joined the resurging Mother of Dragons.

It would not take a genius to presume that the Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” next year shall feature Daenerys and her army arriving in King’s Landing and a major battle would surely happen.

The latest spoiler is also suggesting that viewers can look forward to Daenerys going into the Dragonpit at King’s Landing.
