Square Enix teased a few days ago that they will be announcing a new mobile game called Final Fantasy from Takashi Tokita, Final Fantasy 4 lead designer. He is also the producer behind many of Square Enix’s handheld and mobile titles such as Final Fantasy 3 remake along with Final Fantasy Legends.

Considering his recent work, it is reasonable to assume that it will be another game from the Dimensions/Legends and surely enough, it is exactly that. It is the third game in the series, considering the Japan-only social RPG Final Fantasy Legends: The Crystal of Time and Space). The new game is called Final Fantasy Legends 2.

If it releases outside Japan, it will follow suit of Final Fantasy Dimensions 2, its predecessor. There’s not a lot of information besides the title. Square Enix posted a teaser trailer which comes with a message from Tokita, and he describes this game to be a rebirth for the series. However, there is no indication regarding what he means by that.

There is no release date or price point specified in the trailer, but fans have been encouraged to pre-register the game on the official website to receive in-game presents like the Brotherhood weapon and the Tidus’ Phantom Stone, both from the game Final Fantasy 10.

The presence of the pre-registration campaign and items like that has led people to believe that this will be another free-to-play social RPG, but right now, we can only guess about it. What we now have are many questions and a single name.

Will it be an FTP title? Will it release outside of Japan and if so when? Are the people looking forward to another Final Fantasy title? There are a lot of questions circulating and no specific answers available.

Final Fantasy Dimensions 2 will be arriving on IOS and Android and Square Enix featured a countdown teaser website from October 2016. From the looks of it, the upcoming game will follow the same approach as its predecessor.

According to Gematsu, the logo proclaims Final Fantasy Legends, but if you notice the first game, it was launched in western markets as Final Fantasy Dimensions. Takashi Tokita, the game creator, mentioned at the end of the teaser that the previous title in the series was ‘Warriors of Light and Darkness.’

The same approach was followed by ‘Space-Time Crystal,’ and Final Fantasy Dimensions 2 is a rebirth. For mobile devices, the upcoming game will be called ‘Final Fantasy Dimensions 2’ in the West and Final Fantasy Legends 2’ in Japan.

Takashi further explained in the teaser trailer that the game would unravel in new space-time. He also said that the game is all about characters that come with human traits and dramatic battles filled with sadness and anger. Furthermore, the game is legitimately about Fantasy.

According to Crunchy Roll, Takashi will be primarily responsible for Final Fantasy Dimensions 2 game design and the character designs with game illustrations will be handled by Yoshitaka Aman.

Rumors indicate that Final Fantasy 2 will continue with its approach and first story and this indicates that the game will be segregated into various episodes. However, the title will still feature a job ability system along with 2-dimensional graphics.

In Dimensions 2, players will continue adopting the roles of warriors of light and battle against the darkness to collect precious crystals. There will be an Active Time Battle System in the game and players will be able to control a party.
