Set in the beautiful red brick building that was once home to one of London’s Victoria era railway hotels, The Landmark London is now one of the capital’s most luxury 5 star hotels.
Underneath The Landmark sits their own Spa & Health Club, accessible not only by guests but for regulars also to make use of the gym, swim and spa facilities. The philosophy of the spa is to create a tranquil world that offers visitors indulgent yet beneficial spa treatments.
I have to be honest – spending a few hours in a spa isn’t normally at the top of my list of favourite things to do given the time. But after a particularly busy and stressful time at work, The Landmark’s invitation arrived at the perfect moment – an opportunity to force myself to turn off my phone whilst trying to relax for a few hours.
I arrived and filled out the necessary paperwork – “How would you like to feel after this treatment?” it asked. “MORE RELAXED”, I answered in block capitals. After putting my phone securely in a locker and changing into a robe, I was taken into one of the spa’s treatment rooms – dimly lit and tranquil, I was already feeling relaxed and enjoyed the idea that just metres above my head was the hustle and bustle of the Marylebone Road during the morning commute.
The spa uses VOYA products and treatments – VOYA being a family-owned, Irish business that first ran organic seaweed baths in their hometown of Strandhill on Ireland’s wild Atlantic coast. VOYA products are the world’s first range of organic seaweed based products, with the Walton family aiming to bring the beneficial properties of seaweed to a wider arena.
I embarked on VOYA’s Voyager Total Massage Journey – a truly top to toe relaxation journey that incorporates everything from stretching to deep body massage. As a tall person who spends too much time sat in front of the computer, I tipped off my treatment specialist that my back and shoulders could do with some love and care – it turns out she was able to find endless knots in need of attention.
After an hour of clearing the pressure around my neck and shoulders, stimulating the scalp and soothing my tired and stiff muscles, I was certainly feeling relaxed and relieved of any aches and pains. I was led through to the relaxation room for a bit of time to come back to life with a cup of green tea before heading to the health club for a swim in the 15m chlorine free pool (unusual for the middle of London), whirlpool and some time in the Sanarium.
I left The Landmark to a sunny Marylebone afternoon, feeling energised and ready to take on the rest of the day. The Landmark London really can offer some indulgent ‘me time’ in the heart of London, as well as second to none gym and health club facilities for anyone who lives or works in the area to enjoy.
