I was first introduced to Reiki back in 2005. My friend Rachel agreed to give me my Level 1 attunement and I walked to the center of the labyrinth at her retreat center where I received this amazing gift. She gave me a copy of a book so that I could learn all about Reiki, however, I wasn’t ready to dive in quite yet. Although I wasn’t ready to practice it, I did want to get to know Reiki better so I started going to Reiki healing circles to experience it through different people. I enjoyed these sessions, and yet I still wasn’t ready to practice on other people or to really commit to learning more.

Then in 2014 I met Sarah and I signed up for her Level 1 Reiki class where I received a day of training as well as another Level 1 attunement. Level 1 is all about self-healing and so for 21 days after my attunement, I practiced Reiki on myself. I felt more grounded, more connected to the earth, and more alive. I had a wonderful peace and was excited about the possibility of sharing this gift with others.

I didn’t wait long before I took Level 2 Reiki with Sarah and learned how to work on others. After our attunement we practiced on each other to gain confidence and have our first taste of making a difference with another person using Reiki. We were instructed that for 21 days we could not say no if someone asked us to perform Reiki on them.

My Uncle Ed was visiting from out of town and I got to see him the day of my Level 2 attunement as he and my mom watched my son while I was gone for the day at my training. He said that his foot hurt from stubbing his toes in the middle of the night before and it was difficult for him to walk. That evening I arrived at my sister’s house for dinner and he was sitting on the back porch with his foot out and his face scrunched in pain.

This 79-year-old man that I love dearly, and has never heard of Reiki before that day, said “Sure, why not?” when I offered to perform Reiki on him to help ease his pain. After I was finished he said he experienced feeling a sharp pain, almost like an electrical shock run through his leg. He wasn’t sure if it had helped or not, but was able to get up and come inside to enjoy dinner.

When I saw him the next day I asked him how his foot was doing. He said that he woke up that morning with absolutely no pain at all and that he felt better than brand new. Despite his history of bruising due to a medical condition and that it takes him longer than most people to heal, he was doing just fine. He still had some discoloration, but it wasn’t slowing him down at all.

I know that Reiki is not about me and that the power is not in me at all, however, in that moment, it was an amazing feeling to know that I was a conduit of healing for this person that means so much to me.

What is Reiki?

The best way I can describe it is this: Reiki is the healing energy and wisdom of the universe. Once a person becomes attuned to this energy, they can then serve as a channel to direct it to a person, place, time, and/or thing in order to aid in healing. What makes Reiki different from other energy healing is that the practitioner is only a channel, so their energy is not drained while using Reiki. Healing someone else can actually also heal the practitioner at the same time. Reiki is wisdom and will go where it is needed.

What is Reiki used for?

Here are just a few examples:

I’ve helped someone that wanted to lose weight. After 2 sessions with me she reported that she’d lost over 50 pounds.

Reiki can be used for physical, mental, and emotional pain.

At level 2 and above, Reiki can be sent into the past to heal painful situations

At level 2 and above, Reiki can be sent into the future to smooth the way

Reiki can be used to find solutions in seemingly impossible situations. It’s great for helping to define and achieve goals.

Reiki can be used for pets. I used it a lot for my dog, Baxter, when he was nervous or hurting and I used it to help him to transition when it was his time to leave his body.

Reiki can be used in any situation where you are willing to open up to its healing energy and wisdom.

I’ve never regretted using Reiki, only wished I’d remembered to use it more often.

I’ve been wanting to do Level 3, Master level, Reiki ever since I finished up Level 2, but circumstances did not allow this to happen in the same way as Level 1 or Level 2. I’m not sure how I even found it anymore, but I came across an online class that was Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 all in one. It was $199 and I thought that was a great deal! Each level on its own usually costs more than that, and here I could get a refresher and something to always have access to for less than the cost of one level.

Some of the original Reiki masters charged thousands of dollars to train new people in how to use Reiki, however, many others believe that this ancient healing art should be available to anyone that would like to use it in their life.

I did what I always do and I started hunting for coupon codes. I hit the jackpot and was able to get this class for only $10. I was willing to pay $199, but wasn’t ready to spend that yet. When I saw I could get it for $10, I knew I had nothing to lose. I was skeptical about learning Reiki through a computer rather than online, but for $10 I knew it couldn’t hurt.

I paid my $10 and took a peek and I was amazed at the amount of content in this course! I printed out nearly 200 pages of manuals written by the course’s creator. There was just as much information (or more) here than any of the other courses I’d taken. She has created several videos with slides where her calm voice reads through much of the information. Videos are a huge help for me in learning. When I can hear something read and see it on the screen then cross reference it with the manual, I learn so much more than just a written manual.

The course instructor created a Facebook group where people can share their experience and she has a website with tons of resources for learning more.

She does the attunements remotely, however, that’s the one part of the course that I have yet to complete. It’s been a busy few months and I want to properly prepare my body and mind for the attunement and I just wasn’t ready. My plan is to complete the attunements before the end of the year so that I will finally, after 10 years, be a Reiki Master.

When my five-year-old son crawled into bed with me last night because he had growing pains in his legs, he asked me to do some Reiki. It’s the first thing he asks for when he’s hurting. When my mom fell at my house while I was out, he said, “Don’t worry Grandma. Mommy will do Reiki on you when she gets home.”

If you’ve ever read anything on Marvy Moms before you know that I am an aromatherapist and that I love using essential oils for many things. I also believe in using the most gentle approach to get the desired result. Reiki is always with me. I don’t have to carry it in a bottle or a jar and I can never run out of it.

Reiki can be available for you too! While the $10 deal isn’t always available, they almost always have some sort of deal going on. I’ll do my best to keep this post up to date with current coupon codes.

Udemy has a huge Black Friday promotion going on right now, so I’ve partnered up with them to bring you this deal here. The price starts out at $10 for a course on November 18, 2015, and then it increases by $1 every 48 hours until it reaches $15. So, the sooner you buy, the more you save. No coupon is necessary for this promotion, just click the banner below and the discount will be applied.

As I write this article, the Reiki Level I, II and Master Certification class has a 5 star rating. 387 students have rated the class and 9,770 students have enrolled. I convinced about six of my friends to sign up when I did, and now’s your chance to sign up too.

The instructor, Lisa Powers, makes herself accessible through email and Facebook and she is constantly updating the class to add new material. She asks what people would like more information about and then adds it to the class. Since you have lifetime access to the class, you will benefit each time this course improves.

If you’ve ever had Reiki training before, this is a great refresher. If you have never head Reiki training before then this is the perfect starting point! I would encourage you to find a local Reiki community that hosts a Reiki healing circle (or start one yourself) to get some in-person experience with other practitioners. If you think Reiki is a bunch of hooey, then all I can say is suspend your judgement until you’ve experienced it for yourself. If my 79-year-old uncle can do it, then so can you. And at this price, how can you pass it up?

Please do me a favor: If you decide to sign up for this class, tell me about it in the comments below. Once you take the class, share your experience in the comments below. Once you start practicing Reiki and experience its beautiful healing power, tell me about it in the comments below. I want to hear about the amazing ways you use Reiki in your life.
